Hindu-Muslim wedding in Mysuru, families agree but 'groups' oppose

Mysuru, Apr 12 (PTI): A group of people claiming to be members of pro-Hindu outfits staged a protest here today, opposing a Hindu family's decision to get their daughter married to a Muslim man, calling it an act of "love jihad".

The protesters shouted slogans of 'love jihad' outside the girl's house, while alleging that religious conversion was happening in the name of love and marriage.

The duo, both MBA graduates and whose fathers were childhood friends, have been in love with each other for the last 12 years and are scheduled to get married soon in Mysuru with consent of both their families, according to members of both families.

Alleging that "love jihad" cases are on rise, one of the protesters demanded to know why the girl was being trained on Islamic practices and Quran if it was a true love marriage.

The protesters left the place after police intervened.

Rejecting the protesters' charges, the girl said, "Even if I get married to a Hindu guy, I have to practise traditions of his family. I'm in love with him and I'm getting happily married with the consent of our parents." Her father Dr Narendra Babu, a paediatrician, said his daughter's happiness was "more" important to him and religion does not matter at all.

"We have never given importance to religion or caste. We did not know about it. They were in love for last 12 years. First even I thought it would be difficult as the guy is a Muslim, but later I learnt he is the son of my childhood friend. They are good people," he said.

The boy's father Mukhtar Ahmed said there are no differences between the families on the issue of religion and the family has happily consented to the marriage.

"The girl and boy both are not uneducated, they are MBA graduates. The girl has been abroad also. There is nothing called love jihad. They both were in love and now they are getting married with our consent and blessings," he said.

There are millions of married women and mostly married to men of their own religion and most of all married to the boy whom'e the family was most pleased are now living in unhappy marriages, abused, mistreated, and most of all raped by their own husbands in the name of marriage.
where are all these so called outfits gone, there is no much oppression going on all over, instead of saving these women and children from these marriages they are off to break up a love match in the name of religion. The boy and girl are okay, moreover both the families are okay and as educated citizens the parents know that the couple will make it thru thick and thin.

Really don't know why this self proclaimed saviours of Hinduism feel vulnerable.., may be they don't practice it in its true sense & values.., or is it they want Hinduism to protect their political allegiance, identity & existence...? Nobody leased Hinduism to any political party..!!!

People should come out of their frozen mind. Marriage is the step to come out for a boy and a girl from their family grip and start their own new life, girl should not be married to the boys family but only to the boy.both should live separately and start their own independent life with equal freedom, , freedom of religion, freedom of thinking, freedom of speech, freedom of self decision, specially I am talking about girl. Normally parents sell their daughter to boys family. We see it in the form of " opsun dhivnche" during wedding. It is my best advice to the parents that children should not be thought about the religion until they get major age. Let them understand what is religion and decide whether to practice any religion or not. Religion is the biggest blunder in the world, it is not at all required in our life to live on this earth planet. Earth came out of frozen status millions of years ago, but tragedy is human mind still not.

@Raj, Mangalore: Are you a Ghar Jammai?? Do you know in every religion when a woman marries, she leaves her family behind and accept her husband's family as hers. the family name (or surname as you call it) will be changes to the new family and the children born will get that family name. Did you inherited your mothers family name, if you're married, are you living with your wife's family and accepted their family name?? If a man marries a girl of another country, she gets his nationality as well (it is equal now in many developed countries). So, if she has no problem in accepting him, his family and his religion as hers for her future, what is your problem?? it's not just the problem which you have but lack of education and common sense to make this common thing(2 people in love want to marry) an issue.

seriously? some people seem to complaint. aren't you tired of reading about all the wars, economy and crap? I totally am. this one thing puts a smile on my face and then there are some who simply spoil a good day!

Hindu girl marrying a Muslim guy or Hindu guy marrying a Muslim girl or any religion. god, am tired of this religion mess!
let's agree about 'love jihad' those who do it are just anti-social elements who don't understand Holy Quran to begin with! You want to support them???!
You can marry anyone as long as you keep them happy and take good care of them. simple as that.
well, no wonder world is a mess.

I'm surprised. you people, Hindus or Muslims or whatever it may be... go to place of worship and read those beautiful verses and I doubt if you pray for war and hatred. it's only in mouth is it? for all the love, peace and good health. and out in the world, you do everything opposite of what you pray for?
didn't mean to hurt any of your feelings or beliefs. but isn't that how it is?!
there is already enough crap happening in the world. not to mention the problems with nature.
for once just understand and let each other live in peace or else life has no meaning!

First of all, congratulations to the couple for this bold decision blessed by parents of both. There is no room for strangers to criticize. Islam requires children born of any inter-religious marriage to be brought up as muslims, which is what the Roman Catholics also ordain. So, do not bring religion into the picture.Although there may be very few muslim women marrying hindus or christians, no big deal is made of it. The fanatics always have a field day in these situations.

    Dr. Mohan Prabhu,
In such cases, children should have the freedom to choose the religion of their choice. Usually problems arise when the wife is forced to accept the husband’s religion and the children their father’s religion. I know a person whose parents follow different religions and he has accepted his mother’s religion. Further he has married a girl of yet another religion. Now his father, mother and wife practice three different religions under one roof. No conflicts in the family on issues of religion. To me it's a perfect example of religious harmony.

Both the couples are educated and so are their parents. They know what they are doing. Religion should not come in the way of their marriage.

Rajesh, I have given my wife the freedom to follow her religion. She follows her faith and goes to temple and I support her as well as i go to temple along with her. I am Christian and she is a Hindu and i dont think religion was a issue for us nor to our parents. Couples dont have problem but people like you have issues because you guys keep religion above everything.

If you don't know the truth pls shut-up. Don't make false allegation. Neha g/d of Bala saheb married to son of construction magnete Nipubhai Thakkar. Rumour spreaded wrongly by pakistan..out of jealousy. Yes saheb's driver was a muslim guy from many years. Saheb is looked after at latter stage by a muslim doctor. Latter on saheb given him land in andheri to build a private hospital.

Don't get fool ur self with half knowledge. First try to understand what I written in my lines. I said girls own decision. There have many examples I can give you were musim girl still live with Hindu boy without any fear. But which u mentioned that may b another side which parents oppose but killing totally condemn. Also forget Hindu Muslim. Even in Hindu religion upper cast and daliths many more "maryada" murder happens and happening for that upper cast sanghi group kept quit. Now they started barking..

Are we allowing religion to divide our country?

My mother's aunt, a practicing Christian, married a highly educated, highly cultured Muslim gentleman (who went on to become the Director of Education in Maharashtra) in the late 1940s and they lived a very happy married life in Mumbai.

When are we going to change our narrow-minded attitude and live in brotherhood, as children of one motherland?
