Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Apr 13: Officials of mines and geology department along with police on Wednesday April 13 seized six wagons of a goods train that were being used to transport sand, allegedly without permission.

The wagons were seized at BC road while transporting sand from Mangaluru to Sakleshpur. However, some sources said that it was being taken to Bengaluru.

Speaking to daijiworld, an official from the mines and geology department said that permission was not sought for the sand transportation. "We did not receive any letter either from the district administration or the railway department seeking permission for the transportation of sand. Hence, officers from our department and the police stopped the wagons."

As much as 300 metric tonnes of sand was being carried in the six wagons.

"We have asked the assistant engineer of railway of Mysuru division to submit a report on this," the official added.

Station manager of Bantwal railway station Balakrishna told daijiworld that the sand was being transported to Sakleshpur for work related to the railway department. On asked whether it was being transported without permit, he said he had no information about it.

Senior divisional railway manager (DRM) also said that he did not whether permission from the department concerned was sought or not.

The goods train resumed its journey after the sand wagons were seized.

Where is the permit to transport such a huge quantity in good train? How the Railway authorities allowed to load such a huge quantity of sand? The Railway authorities should bemade responsible for this illegal transportation of sand.We local people are not getting sand for our petty construction works. Then how others get huge quantity of sand ?

Sand belongs not only to the state or center or mines or geological department, but to the people.
The more restrictions & red tapes, it becomes a mine of wealth for those who give permits & licenses.
Stop these before another "Satyagraha" like Dandi March for salt, is inevitable to free the clutches of License Raj.

Indeed there is a good alternative for sand and lot of people are using it with successful results. The problem in DK is that the none of the so called builders are qualified engineers. No wonder Mangalore qualified for the 1st list of smart cities. The majority of DK people who have loads of illegal money but no basic education and smart brain. Moreover, MCC is so corrupt that they may not issue a completion certificate if they get to know sand was not used for construction. This is the current situation of DK. It's getting worst day by day.
