London, Oct 12: An Indian-origin teenager became the latest victim of teenage crime in London when he was stabbed to death in a park here by a gang involved in stealing mobile phones. 

Incidents of teenage deaths in London have caused considerable concern among the people. The murder of Rizwa Darbar, 17, whose family migrated to Britain from India, is the 21st death of a teenager here this year.

The attack on Rizwan happened on Sunday October 7, in West Ham Park, Forest Gate. His brother, Tausif, 19, told the media: "He was fasting and bored so he went out with some friends. They were walking through the park waiting for some other friends when some black boys came up to them.”

"They were asking them for money and phones, anything valuable. His friends eventually gave their phones and jewellery. I think Rizwan twitched or moved or something. An argument broke out. Someone standing behind the boy in front of Rizwan put his arm round and stabbed him in the stomach."

Aiyub Darbar, Rizwan's father, a launderette owner from Forest Gate, east London, said: "He was a very courageous and respectful guy. He was always caring for his mother." He added that he "could not have asked for a better son."

Detective chief inspector Matt Horne described the attack as "an unprovoked robbery with gratuitous violence."
