Bengaluru, Apr 17: Even before newly anointed Karnataka BJP Chief B S Yeddyurappa could embark on his tour of drought affected districts in the State on his Rs 1 crore worth custom-built Prado car gifted by former Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani, Congress leader V S Ugrappa lashed out at the latter for presenting a luxurious car to the former chief minister.
The Congress MLC Ugrappa, who is close to State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, asked Nirani to explain how he got the money to purchase and gift such an expensive Prado car to his erstwhile boss while denying the dues to hundreds of sugarcane growers, who had supplied cane to his sugarcane factory.
Nirani Sugars, a factory owned byNirani, had not paid pending dues to the tune of Rs 180 crore to cane growers, Ugrappa said.
"Nirani has no money to make payment for growers. But he has money to gift the expensive car to Yeddyurappa," the Congress leader said.
Ugrappa questioned Yeddyurappa on how he can visit the farmers of drought-hit districts by travelling in his custom-built expensive car, ostensibly gifted by his former minister.
"This reflects the mindset of BJP leaders," Ugrappa said.
Yeddyurappa had planned to use the sport utility vehicle (SUV) to travel across the drought-hit state of the State.
However, Yeddyurappa has decided not to use the expensive gifted car and instead travel by train and car to meet the people after receiving adverse reactions from the Congress party leaders and his own partymen.
