Kundapur, Apr 17: Kota police arrested one person in Mumbai on Friday April 15 for the alleged cheating of people in the name of visa, passport and Umrah pilgrimage. The accused was produced in court on Saturday.
Abdul Khader, a director of Al Ikhlas tours and travels from mission street Mangaluru, is the person arrested.
Kota police arrested Abdul Khader in relation to a complaint registered at Kota police station against Abdul Khader. Abdul Khader had taken Rs 8 lac in May 2015 from G Maida Kutty from Gundmi near Sasthan with the promise of passport and visa for the purpose of going on Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina. But Abdul did not deliver the promised services. When Maida enquired, Abdul Khader gave him two blank cheques. Maida complained to the police after both cheques were dishonoured at the bank.
A complaint was also registered later at Udupi city police station by Mohammed Iqbal, a relative of Maida Kutty, saying Abdul Khader cheated him by promising the Umrah pilgrimage and took Rs 3.30 lac from him.
But before police could initiate any action, Abdul Khader went missing. He could not be traced for the next six months.
Brahmavar circle inspector Arun G Nayak and Kota station officer Kabbalraj went with their team to Mumbai and arrested Abdul Khader with the help of Mumbai police.
Abdul Khader was found in a luxury lodge in Mumbai. He lived a luxurious life in Mumbai and with his sophisticated behaviour made sure that he did not look like a cheater.
Kota police produced the accused in the court on Saturday and are investigating.
Complainants say that Abdul Khader has cheated many people and there are many cases which are yet to be reported.
