Mangaluru: Brahmakalashotsava of Suryanarayana Temple begins

Mangaluru, Apr 18: "Shree Suryanarayana Temple is a unique temple. Sun is the only god we can see. Sun plays an important role during the entire lifetime of a human being. Sun’s contribution to the universe is huge and very essential. Hence worshiping the Sun God for has become the practice and also it is found in the tradition and culture of Sanatan Dharma," said Sri Keshavananda Bharathi Swamiji of Yedaneeru Math.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the religious meet held on the occasion of Brahmakalashotsava of Shree Suryanarayana Temple, Maroli here on Sunday, April 17. The celebrations will go on till April 26.

"What we give to the society without expectation will return to us in some form or the other. Our lives are enriched when we help others selflessly," Swamiji added.

Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, convener of Sri Rama Educational Institutions, Kalladka, released a handbook on information about the temple.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Prabhakar Bhat said, "Sun has been worshipped in our country from time immemorial. This temple for the Sun God is a special one. Recently even the NASA based in the US discovered that the sound released from the sun is 'Om'. Our forefathers told us about 'Om' in ancient times. Unfortunately foreigners should remind us about the importance of our rich tradition, culture and practice of religion.

"The so-called progressive thinkers take the word 'Hindu' as being communal. But Hindus are the people who wished 'Sarve Jana Sukhino Bhavantu' (May all people be happy). Hindu is a dharma and also a way of life. We should pass on the essence of Ramayana and Mahabharata, Bhagavat Gita to our children," Dr Bhat added.

Dr Shikaripura Krishnamurthy, retired professor, presented a talk on 'Role of temple in personality development'.

MLA JR Lobo presided over the function.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Balakrishna Kottary, Ramananda Salian and Chitaranjan, president of Garodi Temple, Kankanady and others were present.
