Kerala double murder: Death for Nino Mathew, life for lover Anushanthi

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 18 (Agencies) : The Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court has sentenced Nino Mathew, the first accused in the Attingal double murder case, to death. Calling it the 'rarest of the rare' case, the judge also sentenced his partner in crime, Anushanthi, to a double life sentence.

The accused, Anushanthi and her lover Nino Mathew, were both software engineers working with an IT company in the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram. They were accused of killing Anushanthi's four-year-old daughter and her mother-in-law. They also attempted to murder her husband on April 16, 2014.

The Principal Sessions judge V. Shersy while delivering the verdict on Monday called Anushanthi an 'insult to motherhood'. The accused have also been asked to pay Rs 50 lakh as fine.

Anushanthi reportedly told the court that she did not conspire to kill her daughter, according to a Malayala Manorama report. She reportedly said, "Don't call me a mother who killed her own baby."

The prosecution had asked for a death sentence for both the accused.

On April 16, 2014, Nino Mathew reportedly killed Vijayamma (57) and Swastika (4) in their home. He was waiting for Lijeesh, Anushanthi's husband, and attacked him when he returned home. Lijeesh managed to escape and alert the neighbours.

An extra-marital affair between Nino and Anushanthi led to the gruesome murders. They wanted to eliminate them to lead a life together.

Public Prosecutor Vineet Kumar has told media that two accused were found guilty under Section 120B (conspiracy), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 449 (criminal trespassing), 201 (destruction of evidence) and 380 (theft) of IPC and 67A of the IT Act.

The judge has done a good job in sentencing these two murderers. While Nino pays for his heinous crime thru death, Anushanthi will wish for death every day of her life in prison, as it is well known that other prisoners do not take kindly to inmates who land among them on issues relating children.

If these two fall in love, why they can't divorce their partners and re-marry? Both are educated. Why killing innocents?
She looks more rough. Good she got life sentence. Let her suffer. She should worry for killing her own kid. She is a shame for motherhood.
Life sentence should be life in prison. She never be able to see the world again. Let her die naturally in prison.

Some people refuse to surrender them self's to destiny & try to live in a way they want, which keeps them happy, rather then blaming their destiny every day!!!

For that people like Ninu & Anu will try to kill all obstacles on their path!

Some try to create a suffocating environment at home each day, indirectly killing their spouse by disturbing peace, picking up fight and forcing them to separate!!!

I feel extremely sorry for Nino Mathew's father who is a Retd Professor..He warned, advised his son to keep away from Anushanti because Nino too has wife and kid. But son ignored dad and shouted back when Dad advised son to confess in front of Jesus and come out clean..Finally Dad gave evidence against Son in Court..Great DAD..I feel sorry that such a disciplined and God fearing Dad got such a Bas..rd son..Note Nino sprayed chilly powder into eyes of victims and took Gold ornaments to misguide Police that it was a robbery..but Anushanti's husband survived and rest is history..

    2. Still think she can't be a woman who was a Mother!
    3. Anushanthi...means the one who is followed by peace everywhere she goes...! What an irony to have such a name!
    4. Has this really happened??
5.Did a medical check up reveal any
    'heart' in Anushanthi??
    OMG!OMG!!

Today's education system teaches to earn money only. Since people think that their purpose of living is to gain material success, relationship, respect, virtue, ethics etc don't matter. This kind of mindset leads to the idea of "self gratification" instead of "self realization". And this is the outcome when a person deviates from his true nature of "self realization" to "self gratification". Our culture speaks in abundance about "self realization" but some how ignorance of our culture and importing western garbage has grown in to our people's mind. This is the out come of western sense of "success" which is "material" in nature...

    1. Had extra-marital affair
    2. Planned and helped Lover to kill her own daughter and mother in law.
3.Planned to kill husband too..but he survived and became a very very important witness to this gruesome crime..

Anushanthi is the main culprit and root cause for bringing the disaster in the family. She should be punished by sending to gallows along with Nano(Nino) Mathew. How she can live in peace with the guilt of the sins she committed. Only death can do justice and not life imprisonment.

Sanjay you are absolutely right. Two lives gone only because of this woman. The judgment should have on the other way. She should be the main accused. Few months back over here a white woman was sentenced to death, her lover killed her legal husband. Her lover is in jail now. But woman's death sentence was carried out also. Anyway as usual it took 15 years for that thing to happen.
