Mangaluru: DK journos emerge champions at state-level cricket tourney

Mangaluru, Apr 19: Bringing laurels to their district, the journalists of Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Union (DKDWJU) emerged champions in the state-level cricket tournament for journalists held in Mysuru on April 16 and 17.

Journalists from all over the state took time off their busy schedules to participate in the two-day state-level cricket tournament organized by Mysuru District Working Journalists' Union in Mysuru under the aegis of Karnataka Journalists' Association.

The team from Dakshina Kannada won the championship, defeating Mysuru team in the final by 17 runs. The team from Mandya bagged the third spot. The Dakshina Kannada team included daijiworld's ace lensman Dayanand Kukkaje.

In the final, DK team scored 51 runs in six overs for the loss of two wickets. In reply, Mysuru team could only manage 34 runs in six overs for the loss of five wickets.

The winners took home a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 and second runners-up Rs 20,000.

Mysuru city police commissioner B Dayanand presented the winner's trophy.

Manjunath Bhat was declared man of the match as well as man of the series. The team from Bagalkot won the fair play award.

DK team captain Rajesh Rao Puttur, DKDWJU chief secretary Srinivas Nayak Indaje, team members and others were present.

The Dakshina Kannada team had come second in the state-level cricket tournament held in Madikeri last year. President of Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Union Jagannatha Shetty Bala congratulated the champions.
