Kundapur, Apr 20: Kota police have arrested two notorious inter-district thieves who had escaped from Hiriadka prison in January this year and who are involved in nearly 20 cases in various police stations.

Kumar Gosavi (23) and Ashok alias Babru, both of Hassan origin, were arrested on Monday April 18.

It is learnt that on Monday, the police personnel spotted two persons moving suspiciously near Hanuman rice mill located beside the national highway 66 in Tekkatte here. On seeing the police, the duo took to their heels but the cops gave a chase and managed to nab them.

An iron rod and exo blade were recovered from the duo. On questioning, it was revealed that they

Kumar and Ashok are accused in various cases in police stations of Bantwal, Puttur, Beltangady, Hassan, Byndoor, Kushalnagar and other places. Moreover, in two cases in which they were arrested, they managed to give the police a slip. They have committed thefts in houses, temples and educational institutions.

Sources said that the duo would set up temporary tents near railway or bus stations and on the pretext of collecting scrap, they would roam around the place and identify their targets. During the night, they would execute their plan to steal and then disappear from the town.

They had been arrested by the Hiriadka police on June 9, 2015 in connection to theft of gold ornaments in Hassan. Both of them escaped from Hiriadka prison on January 23.

They are presently in the custody of Kota police.

Looking at their age, one can imagine how big criminals they can become after couple of years, because they will come out of the jail easily as their crime is robbery and escaping from jail cant hold long jail term, rehabilitation and counselling only can save them.
