Doha: Mangaluru-origin lad wins top prize in photography contest

Doha, Apr 20: A budding photographer of Mangaluru origin has done his hometown proud by bagging the top prize in a Qatar-level photography contest organized by a leading newspaper.

'Picturesque Sunset', a photo shot by Kartik Prakash Rao (18) has won the 14th edition of the Gulf Times Instagram Contest.

Kartik, a student of Ideal Indian School who recently appeared for Grade 12 examination, has been in Qatar since his childhood.

He is the son of Thonse Prakash Rao who works as general manager in Al Baida Transport Company, Vani Prakash Rao. The family shifted from Mangaluru to Qatar in 1986.

Kartik took part in this contest for the first time. Apart from photography, he is interested in automobiles and electronics. He is specially interested in nature photography.

The photograph by Kartik, which was one among the 15 shortlist for the contest, was liked by 131 Instagram followers, making it the winning entry. The picture also attracted 31 comments.
