Udupi, Oct 15: The 75th Birthday of Moodbelle parish priest Fr Valerian D'Souza was celebrated with great joy by the parishioners on Monday October 15.

A short stage programme to felicitate Fr Valerian D'Souza was later held during which a book 'Jinnye Suvad' on the life of Fr Valerian D'Souza was released. Fr Valerian was presented with the model of Moodbelle church by the parishioners.  Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza honoured Fr Valerian during the jubilee celebration.

Episcopal vicar Fr Baptist D'Souza, Kuslshekar parish priest Fr Lawrence D'Souza, Fr Valerian's brother Fr Denis D'Souza,  parish council vice-president Henry Fernandes and secretary Meera Lobo were also present on the dais.

With all credit to Fr Valerian Sr for his long service in the Lord's vineyard, a question arises to our mind... Do we need such bashes? Priests accept and practice humility, chasticity and simplicity with dedication to work for the propagation of the faith. While we talk about about poverty, homeless and hungry.. is there any need for these expensive events? Every body crosses landmarks in their own life! Church leaders need to introspect itself and avoid these celebrations which have become a sort of competitions among the padri and their followers at Mangalore. Vigilant parishioners need to be like Lord Jesus Christ at the Temple who drove away the commercial agents and cleaned the premises. God Bless.
