Mangaluru, Apr 21: A newborn girl baby was found under the Haleneeru bridge at Kairdhabettu between Kallamandkur and Puttige villages near Moodbidri on Thursday, April 21. Moodbidri police are in search of the parents of the baby.

Santosh Bhat from Kaikude near Kallamandkur had gone for his morning walk with his dog. The dog ran towards a place under the bridge and started barking. This prompted Bhat to check the spot, and that is when he found the abandoned baby. Ants could be seen moving on the face of the infant. He informed the locals, who then gathered in big numbers.

When nobody was ready to take charge of the baby, gram panchayat member Satish Kallamandkur took the baby away and fed her. He then informed the Moodbidri police station about the baby. With the help of Bharathi and Nagarathna, supervisors of Puttige and Moodbidri woman and child development department, respectively, the baby was taken to Moodbidri community health centre hospital for initial care. The doctors said that the baby was 5 days old. Its umbilical code was not cut.

The baby was later sent to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment and after the treatment the baby was handed over to Puttur baby care centre.

Only police investigation can reveal the identity of the baby. Some say as the baby is a girl, the parents might have abandoned it.

It was later discovered that the officials from the child development department took the Moodbidri police to task as the police who had gone to the police station at 10.30 am with necessary information to register the first information report (FIR) had not come back till 1 pm. Only then did the police come to help in the procedure of handing over the baby to the relevant authorities.

Baby in demand

People in big numbers to the hospital in Moodbidri to see the baby. Some people asked the officials of the child development department that they would look after the baby. But the officials said that they could not entertain such demands as it was legally not possible.

    There could be two reasons...

Either the mother was prompted to do so because of the girl child issue

or else... the obvious and most common...

    pre-marriage pregnancy.

Anyway God help the little angel and let she get a good household and upbringing.

Guys please don't judge or blame the mother , we don't know what happened to her .
She might be mentally ill, no mother would do that to the child in their right mind...
I have witnessed similar like this in my life .

Find hardly words here to see and hear such a Action.Whoever it isand the cause ,it is not humanitarian to live the just Born child somewhere under the Bridge for self.Who knows the Baby was lying there how Long, and what if some wild animals at night,or Dogs would drag and kill it?Cant think of it .Had luck ,hope the Baby will survive and find a sweet home who cares for it.The Person who abandoned it could have handed over the child to one of the homes or give it to Adaption free.why do they act like this.Poor Baby without mother and father have to grow.It was either a illegal child ,or because of a Girl?when in surroundings one knows who was pregnant and at present no Baby can find it who did this.who knows it was workers from other state have no other means ,but there is always a way but not to Abandon in jungle. All the best dear Little Baby.

It is a long and complicated procedure to get a child for adoption. The survey of homes and institutions run by govt reveal lapses of quality care provided to these children.

Hence, in Mumbai, they have started "Family based care" scheme where these children are given to families to take care for temporary or prolonged period. Afterwards, they are returned to govt. There are instances where foster families have felt very much pain to give back the children.

Moral Police did not come because it was human baby.
Instead, if it was Cow calf then they would have made it a big news and took it under their care with lots of street drama in the presence of Swamijis affiliated to VHP.
