Bengaluru, Apr 22: Karnataka will get two special awards for devolution of maximum powers to panchayats (Cumulative Devolution Index awards), and maximum efforts to e-enable panchayats from the Centre.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be presenting the awards to the State at the Panchayati Raj Sammelan on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day on Sunday, April 24, in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

Karnataka’s Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil and panchayat representatives would attend the programme and receive the awards.

Kandika village in Sagar taluk in Shivamogga district has bagged the Grama Sabha Puraskar award while Avalahalli, Kannur and Sigehalli GPs in Bengaluru rural district, Siriguppa panchayat in Athani taluk in Belagavi district have bagged Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar.

Afzalpur taluk panchayat in Kalaburagi district and Madikeri taluk panchayat in Kodagu district have also won Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar awards.

The states that have devolved maximum powers to panchayats are Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Sikkim, said an official release from PIB.

States that have made maximum efforts to e-enable panchayats are Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam.

Around 3,000 panchayat representatives from all states will participate in the programme.

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has been celebrating the National Panchayati Raj Day since 2010, as on this day, the 73rd Constitutional Amendment came into force in 1993.

Totally, awards are to be given to 183 panchayats, which includes 21 zillapanchayats, 39 taluk and 123 gram panchayats.
