Passenger in Bengaluru-Manipal bus attacked by driver, cleaner

Daijiworld Media Network-Bengaluru (DV)

Bengaluru, Apr 23: It has come to light that a passenger, originally from Manipal, was assaulted by the bus staff on Friday, April 22 in Bengaluru.

Vivek Shetty, a software engineer working at Infosys residing at NCO Town, Electronic city in Bengaluru was allegedly attacked by staff of Durgamba bus plying from Bengaluru to Manipal at Sheshadripuram.

As per the details in the complaint filed at Sheshadripuram police station, Vivek was allotted seat no 10 in a bus owned by Durgamba travels to travel from Bengaluru to Manipal on Friday night. When Vivek Shetty entered the bus take the allotted seat at around 9.30 pm, he was told to occupy another seat. When Vivek did not agree and demanded the allotted seat, the driver and cleaner of the bus attacked him. Vivek asked them only to talk but not to attack him, yet they continued beating him up.

An auto driver took Vivek, who was bleeding in the nose, to the Sheshadripuram police station. The bus moved ahead leaving Vivek. He complained to the police and then went to Apollo hospital to take treatment for the injury. After the treatment he came to his house as he could not go to Manipal to attend the family function.

Before the attack started, Vivek was waiting at Electronic city bus stop for Durgamba bus which was supposed to collect him at 7.15 pm.  As the bus did not come, Vivek phoned the bus office. They told him to contact the bus staff. The bus staff told him that the bus was at Madiwala Cross. When Vivek said he would come there, they asked him to come to Sheshadripuram. The bus staff told him that the bus does not go to Majestic which would have been easier for Vivek to reach. Yet Vivek agreed to come to Sheshadripuram by paying Rs 800 for the taxi as he was desperate to reach Manipal. But at last when he reached the spot to catch the bus, he was beaten up.

The bus driver and conductor are yet to be interrogated.

Comments says it all! This Durgamba buses are monopoly in this route! How? No prize for guessing!! Certainly they will use their might to prevent more KSRTC and trains. High time central government thinks about direct track fast train between Udupi -Mangalore where journey can be 6 hours or less!! For the time being replace few night buses with KSRTC...charby will reduce with immediate effect and they will learn better behavior automatically!!

Democracy means peoples power. Do we have that power?
Are we getting what we wish for or we have allowed our politicians to sell their souls for :
    1. Bus lobby money.2 Dam construction money 3. Sea erosion money. 4.Builders and real estate money. 5. Sand Mafia money.

Please be assured- there are no saints and politicians ( ribbon cutting/ speech giving) are equally bad cutting across party lines. It is we who can correct them through our collective action.

See the sad state of affairs of water crises. It is not our engineers or planners that lack the brain power. There is no political will and they just see their benefit with artificial water crises.

Why cant the KSRTC have offices and stops all over Mangalore( confiscate the Durgamba office) and similarly take passengers from different points?

Has anyone guts? Have the authorities any guts? Is there any party that has no monetary interest but safety of passengers any guts? Is Siddu AWAKE?

I think it is foolishness to travel by private buses to destinations to which govt buses give the service. KSRTC staff are so nice and obliging.Buses are also good and free of bed bugs.they maintain the speed and time. there maybe some small issues like ratling sound in some busses.but on the whole, they arereally good.Try to avoid private busses. problems will be solved.

There is no control over the private bus owners lobby surely. Was travelling by sugama. They filled the entire storage space with luggage parcels, and passengers had to manage their luggage under the seat or on the berth. being holiday season, many would have bigger bags and they had no sympathy whatsoever. The way they talk, as though they carried you from bangalore to mangalore for free. Surely a letter to RTO and to DC, may remind the authorities that there is more to do on their part, than merely issuing licence.

The driver and the cleaner, act as though they own the highway and passengers have no other means but them.

I was the single lady travelling in that bus. I always preferred Durgamba for its service but this time inspite of beating the passenger ,driver stopped the bus at hassan at 3am in the morning and asked all passenger take ksrtc buses asked us to pay the ticket ourselves. He stopped the bus saying bus broke down. Worst part was there were no buses at hassan going towards mangalore till morning. Why could not durgamba arrange for another bus? If no buses were available why couldn't arrange any other private vehicles? Bus was supposed to reach Mangalore at 4.30 to 5. Why did the bus was still at hassan at 3 in the morning?

Every employee has to have background check- for example these accused have a complaint registered if this reflects on their aadhar card, then a company hiring them in the future will know this if they do a background check.

1.The company is liable for the damages, loss of days etc. If a good lawyer takes up a case - personal injury lawyer- his fees should be the percentage from the amount got from court judgement - 25 lakhs from Durghamba. This is an effective way to change the primitive culture of bus lobby of DK/ Udupi.

2.Resist using Durgamba till they pay damages. We cannot wash our hands- tomorrow this may occur to us. we can do our duty by not using the Durgamba.

    3. My hats off to Shetty for registering a case and informing the media . We are grateful to you so that we can now show less preference to Durgamba( till they settle the issue).

    4. Whenever possible/feasible - I use a KSRTC bus-most of the time they are cleaner( AC sleeper) and more spacious. I also like their professionalism and courtesy to passengers. These are positive changes to a government run bus transport and this gives me hope that yes, India is beginning to shine.

5.My views on private operators are very negative. I personally think( may be my views are biased and speculative) that black money is involved in maintaining their assets and the transport is a means to make it white. Lots of dirty money changing hands. Politicians not far behind. Therefore to deal with them- use courts for demand for compensation.

Not only Durgamba , the list are huge to say. Many Passengers have this bitter experience. Disrespecting the passengers, not taking the passengers from the boarding point n leaving the passengers without informing, spending the unwanted taxi fare to get the missed bus which has not stopped at boarding point. At least vivek filed a complaint but there are many bad experience which were uninformed or not stated like this. l suggest bus travels, to recruit new drivers n cleaners who knows better manners n discipline decency

BUS OWNERS LEAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY IN THE HANDS OF CLEANERS/DRIVERS WHO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF HANDLING THE SITUATION CONVINCING CUSTOMERS AND SOME TIMES OWNERS AVOID THEM SLEEVES BY CANCELLING VEHICLE AND THESE POOR CHAPS FEDUP BY CUSTOMER QUERIES TALK RUDELY.
BUT IT IS REALLY VERY BAD IF THESE SORT OF ATTACKS HAPPEN AFTER WE PAY FOR RESERVED SEATS AND ALSO TAXI FARE EQUALLENT TO BUS FARE THAT TOO WHEN WE ARE SINGLE.
THERE SHOULD BE SOME NORMS TO BE FOLLOWED IN SUCH INSTANCES AND SHOULD BE FINED FOR NOT PROVIDING RESERVED SEATS.
THEY SHOULD NOT ALLOWED TO THEIR FANCY AND POLICE SHOULD TAKE STERN ACTION ON SUCH STAFF.
A CONDUCTOR IS A MUST OTHERWISE WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE IF THEY LEAVE SOME OF THE PASSENGERS IN THE MIDDLE WHEN THEY GET DOWN TO ATTEND THE NATURES CALL.
