Doha: KMCA Tipu Cup draws to a roaring close, SKMWA lift trophy

Doha, Apr 25: Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association (KMCA), an ICC-affiliated organization, unveiled its best so far with an extravagant display of well-planned ceremonies as part of the Tipu Sultan Cup, witnessed by a full house crowd. The final match was played on Thursday of April 21 between SKMWA XI and KSQ XI.

The evening started with the finals match. KSQ won the toss and elected to field, putting SKMWA to bat. SKMWA scored a whopping 138 in 12 overs. The end of the first innings brought the opportunity to embark upon the start of the closing ceremony.

In keeping with the theme of the tournament, to rekindle the memories of one of the valiant sons of Mother India, KMCA brought to centerstage the 'Mysore Tiger' Tipu Sultan, led by a fleet of 18 roaring Harley Davidson by The Tribe motorcycle group. The audience was thrilled and surprised by this extravaganza and promptly seized the opportunity to click away some selfies and videos amongst the deafening roars of the revving engines.

In a grand new-age style of entry, Tipu Sultan was led by his escorts to the designated darbar set up befitting his stature and the stage ceremony started with the recitation of the Quran by Fahad Saeed Assadi.

KMCA president Niyaz Ahmed escorted the chief guests Seenu S Pillai, vice-president and head of premises, ICC and K M Varghese, president of IBPN. KMCA vice-president Saquib Raza Khan escorted past president Syed Abdul Hye to the stage.

The guests on stage were welcomed by children and the welcome speech was presented by KMCA sports secretary Syed Ashfaq. The chief guests then delivered their speeches praising the efforts of KMCA in bring the Indian expat community residing in Qatar together under the unifying theme of sports and culture. Thereafter the match officials were commended for their efforts and valuable contribution to the tournament with a token of appreciation.

The vote of thanks was presented by KMCA president Niyaz Ahmed Saheb who thanked everybody involved in the tournament, the guests on the dais and representatives of the various organizations who took time to grace the tournament with their presence, notably Arvind Patil, Seenu Pillai, K M Varghese, Syed Abdul Hye, Ravi Shetty, Madhu, Suhaib, Prakash Noronha, Roshan Shetty, V S Mannangi, Arun Kumar, Milan Arun, Ibrahim Beary, Prabhakar, Abdulla Monu, Seetharam Shetty, Ramchandra Shetty, Asmat Ali and Dr Sanjay Kudri.

He thanked the match officials, the groundsmen, the logistics team from HBK, the crowd, the media and the KMCA executive committee, and the 'Tipu' himself for appearing for the tournament three years in a row.

It was an emotional moment for president Niyaz Ahmed as the 3rd edition of Tipu Sultan Cup marked a milestone in the proven success of his tenure as the president of KMCA during which he propelled the organization to its forefront among affiliated organizations. He thanked each and every individual who contributed to the success story over the period of time.

The master of the ceremony, past president Ahmed Saeed Assadi closed the stage programme and requested the match officials to resume the match.

A spectacular finals unfolded as the SKMWA XI restricted KSQ XI while defending their score. SKMWA XI won the match that saw some towering sixes to the delight of the huge crowd. It was complete entertainment for the sports enthusiasts at the Old Ideal Indian School Grounds.

The prize distribution followed with giving away of individual trophies by the various representatives of affiliated Karnataka-based organizations and KMCA executive committe members:

Man of the Match - Imran (SKMWA) for his 78 runs off 30 balls.
Best Bowler of the Tournament - Nyamath (SKMWA)
Best Batsman of the Tournament - Sajjad (KSQ)
Man of the Tournament - Imran (SKMWA)

The next set of prizes were the individual trophies along with a cash voucher for the runners-up team and the trophy was presented to KSQ team captain Dr Sanjay Kudri along with sports secretary Tufail by the dignitaries on stage.

The day ended with the giving away of the individual player trophies to the winning team along with a cash voucher and the trophy, the 3rd Tipu Sultan Cup, was presented to the SKMWA XI team captain Kader along with SKMWA president Suhaib.
