Udupi, Apr 26: A report by Press Trust of India from Washington has brought the heartening news that considering the community service rendered by Dr Sampat Shivangi, a street at Mississippi has been named after him. 'Dr Sampat Shivangi Lane' gets its name from this 1962 batch student of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.

Dr Shivangi brought this to the notice of Manipal University chancellor, Dr Ramdas Pai. In turn, Dr Pai has written to Dr Shivangi conveying to him his greetings and best wishes. Dr Pai told him that this is a moment of pride and elation for Manipal University because of an honour conferred for the noble work done by its past student in USA.

Governor of Mississippi, Phil Bryant, has appointed Dr Shivangi to the governing board of mental health of the state for the second term. Dr Shivangi has been re-appointed to this post after completing his first term of seven years with the board. He was the first ever Asian American to have been appointed as the chairman of this board in June 2014. During the period between 2005 and 2008, he had worked as the advisor to American health and human services secretary.

Dr Shivangi happens to be the founder president of American Association of Physicians of Indian origin at Mississippi and president of India Association of Mississippi.
