Doha: Bollywood celebrities to grace 16th Annual May Queen Ball

Doha, Apr 27: Bollywood actor Shivaji Satam, popularly known as 'ACP Pradyuman', actress Yoshika Verma, fashion designer and stylist Chloe Vasishtha along with other dignataries will grace the 16th Annual May Queen Ball to be held on May 5 at the Radisson Blu Doha from 7.30 pm onwards. The event is being organised by Goan Welfare Association in collaboration with Link Marketing.


Shivaji Satam

Shivaji Satam is an Indian television and film actor. A former bank official, he has appeared in many Hindi and Marathi films. In Hindi, his famous films are Vaastav, Ghulam-E-Mustafa, Yeshwant, China Gate, Taxi No 9211, Nayak, JisDesh Me Ganga Reheta Hai, Sooryavansham, and Hu Tu Tu. In Marathi, he has got recognition through movies like Uttarayan. But what made him popular was his role as ACP Pradyuman in the popular TV series CID on Sony Entertainment Television. He has been appearing in CID since 1998 and has won the best actor award for his role of ACP Pradyuman in the Gold Awards 2012. In late 2013, he planned on working full-time in movies. Due to public demand he was back as ACP Pradyuman in CID. Shivaji has been nominated for Star Screen Award for Best Actor for Ghulam-E-Mustafa. He played a role in the successful Marathi show Ek Shunya Shunya and then appeared in numerous serials and films and became noted for his roles in the Hindi films Vaastav, Kurushetra and 100 Days.


Yoshika Verma

To add more glamour to the event, Bollywood actress Yoshika Verma, a Mumbai girl, trained by her father, the legendary action director Pappu Verma who has directed over 300 films, will appear as a guest artiste. Yoshika Verma started her career working as an assistant director to Ken Ghosh on 'Chance Pe Dance' and then featured in four films; Yeh Hai Bakrapur, Darr @ the Mall, Yahan Sabki Lagi Hai, and Peddlers, and appeared on several ads including for high end jewellery brands like Kalyan and Joyalukkas. Her TV works includes Shaitaan, Yeh Hai Aashique, Hallo Bol and many more. She will be accompanied by her designer Chloe Vasishtha who will be heading the judging panel of the 16th May Queen contest. Chloe Vasishtha is a highly respected Australian fashion designer, retailer, exporter, fashion and interiors stylist for the last 18 years, now residing in Mumbai. She has been designing her high-end brand Lotus for the last 12 years, launched in India with Indian Elle and Cosmopolitan magazine. Prior to that she had famed label 'Kloe Pour Femme', launched back in 1996 in Australia.


Chloe Vasishtha

Chloe Vasishtha has dressed stars from Michael Jackson, for his 1996 world history tour, to Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, Drew Barrymore, Courtney Love and many more. She has designed costumes for the famed US show 'SITC' and done styling for many big musical artistes' videos in Australia. Chloe has also worked as head costume designer for many Australian art house films. She has done more than 100 fashion shows in her 18-year career and is also responsible for all the styling and conceptualizing for her own Sydney and New York fashion week shows.Chloe is also an actress and has done a few ads in Mumbai and Goa. She has worked with musicians for their film clips in the west, including the famed songstress Sia.


Luizinho Faleiro                         Agnelo Fernandes

The highlight of the event will be crowning of the 16th May Queen with fabulous prizes including gold, airline tickets, electronic items and many more, says Goan Welfare Association president Simon D’Silva. Luizinho Faleiro, president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) and former chief minister of Goa has consented to be the chief guest. Agnelo Fernandes, former MLA of Goa will be the guest of honour. Bardroy Barretto, director of National Award winning Konkani film ‘Nachom-ia Kumpasar’, will make a halt in Qatar to attend the mega event while on his way to New York Film Festival in the United States where his Konkani film will be screened. Also, as in the past, Goan leaders and other guests from different countries are expected to grace the occasion, says GWA president, Simon D'Silva.

Alcatrazz, the most celebrated liveband from the Indian state of Goa, will be another highlight of the show along with DJ Glorio and ace comperes Updesh Swar and Mahesh Prabhu.

The Goan Welfare Association has been the voice of Goans living in Qatar for the last 16 years without any doubt, ably led by the multi-talented Simon D’Silva along with his dynamic team, comprising vice-president Paul Fernandes, general secretary Hazel Rodrigues, finance director Pradeep Kotkar, general coordinator Allan De Souza, director, public relation Cajetan Rodrigues, secretary, public relation Deepshika Barretto, director, events Glorio Fernandes, director, cultural Tania Rodrigues, secretary, cultural Effey Noronha, director, sports Edson Fernandes and secretary, sports Edgar Fernandes. The association has rendered yeoman’s service in nurturing Goan culture and spirit among the large number of Goan expatriates. On a larger note, the association has always been in the forefront of reaching out to various causes back home, thus setting a shining example to all. It is therefore not astonishing to see them host events with great aplomb and success over the last one and half decade. The association is known not only for meticulous planning but also perfect execution and the annual May Queen Ball has been the true example for this.
