Bengaluru, Apr 28: The Congress which is in power in the state has stumbled in the hustings, BJP has outperformed its rival with a good margin in the recently held elections to 52 urban local bodies in the state, the results of which were announced on Wednesday April 27.

Election to 52 urban local bodies had been conducted on April 24. These urban bodies were split into city municipalities, town municipalities and town panchayats during the upgradation process following reorganization of gram panchayats, and therefore election had been necessitated. Counting of votes in respect of Managuli town panchayat in Vijayapura district will be held on May 5. In respect of the balance 51 urban bodies, result in respect of 986 seats has been published. No result could be announced pertaining to one seat in Belagali town panchayat, as no nomination papers were received for that seat.

Out of 985 seats, results pertaining to which have been declared, BJP has won 415 seats as against 353 wrested by the Congress. JD(S) with 57, CPM with two, SDPI with 1 and CPI (ML) with one seats are far behind. 156 seats have gone to independent candidates.

Overall, BJP is in majority in 19 local bodies, Congress in 12, JD(S) in 1, while the electorate has given hung verdict in 16 cases. In three bodies, independents are in majority. In Jali town panchayat in Uttara Kannada district, home district of minister, R V Deshpande, 12 out of the total 20 seats have gone to independents. In Arabhavi town panchayat, home constituency of BJP leader, Balachandra Jarkiholi, BJP candidates have won 13 seats as against 3 by independents out of total 16 seats.

Within the city here, BJP secured 76 out of 123 seats which went into polls, These seats are shared between one city municipality and four town municipalities. In these bodies, Congress has bagged 39 seats as against four by the JDS. In Bidadi municipality in Ramanagara district where D K Sghivakumar is the district in-charge minister, JDS will rise to power. In the lone municipality which went to polls in Chitradurga district, BJP will rise to power in Chitradurga, while there is no absolute majority for any particular party in Davanagere. In the three municipalities in Ballari, BJP has won 26 seats as against 22 by Congress, and in all of them, independents will tilt the balance and decide who will take over administration. In Belagavi district, BJP has won 116 seats as compared to 81 by the Congress. In Vijayapura, Congress has fared better with 34 seats as against 39 won by the BJP.

In the two town panchayats which went to polls in Dakshina Kannada district, BJP has won 21 out of 35 seats. Vittal and Kotekar town panchayats have been wrested by the BJP whereas Kaup, home constituency of Vinay Kumar Sorake, has gone to Congress, which has bagged 12 out of 23 seats here.

    So many RATs out today!!!?
Congress, I guess, threw some cheese pieces or Potato chips which these rats like very much for their propulsion and see the way they are fighting for a bit of that.
I will suggest Congress to provide baked sweet potato too. Movements of feet and mouth will be faster, actually that will make the rats fly too like the Augusta Helicopters they had given the order during their stint earlier.
Luckily Congress (UPA) saved their face by cancelling the contract as they were not made for flying even 200 feet above ground..!!!
Same thing is happening with the same BJP Govt. Do not know anything of development. Whatever unfinished i,e. about to finish work from UPA so far saving their face. Nothing more to show.

Its so scary & sad to see Communal BJP is once again getting stronger & stronger in Karnataka, even started making inroad in rural areas were people in the past have been voting for congress in large numbers.

We got a big relief when BJP was thrown out from power in yr 2013 assembly polls, they only won 40 seats, most of the MLA's won by slender margin, in about 120 seats BJP lost deposits.

Congress which won handsomely & formed the Govt, in-stood of making best use of the opportunity, they made a CM, who is a migrant from JD(S), a party hopper, neglecting true congress leaders, welcoming tainted MLA's to join the cabinet, started taking wrong decisions & implementing them, such as cheap Bhagya's, conducting useless & unwanted Jayanthi's, too much minority appeasement, targeting Hindu communities, neglecting farmers, don't care policy for farmer suicide, sleeping while state is under severe drought, making Lokayukth weak by creating ACB to protect tainted ministers, PUC Question paper leak (not once, but twice), CM's Expensive Watch and many other incidents have made the voters angry & disgusted.

BSY effect has also worked considerably, now he being elected Karnataka BJP president have made even worse for Congress. BSY will use all his might & political experience to get disgruntled congress MLA's to his side as election approaches.

Now the time is running out for Congress, they have less than 2 years left, if they think of changing the CM now or expanding or reshuffling the cabinet, that will be the biggest disaster.

God only has to save Congress in Karnataka. We have tough time ahead, BJP coming back to power will be too dangerous to minority community as well as progress of the state. We have seen them in the past. We had enough of them.

    Very sad Congress Sympathizer.

None of the Above (NOTA), is not logical !

It is as same as not voting... Why should I go to polling booth for pressing NOTA & waste my time? Can I stop a party coming to power, which I hate?

@Prem: I just reminded 'NOTA" coz of your statement:
" I did not find any other option than Congress (as I don't want to waste my voting right)!"

NOTA is as good as casting your vote. You cannot say, its a waste of time..!

Just tell me one thing.. You vote for some party & they fail to come to power.. so according to your logic.. "you not only wasted your valuable vote but also your time which you spent to cast your vote in polling booth"

Think & Act logically... & don't give a lazy comment saying "I have no other Choice".

This happens when Majority (Hindus) gets sidelined, anti Hindu policies if pursued by a national Political party over the Minorities in the name of Secularism. There is limit for everything, if at least 40% of the Hindus unite and vote for BJP, no party will be in the national political scene in the Country except BJP. Time has come for the Hindus to unite and rule our country forever.

Jaimini sir... Can you show a single comment I made earlier, saying Sonia Gandhi is a great leader or Congress is best party in India?

Please don't link me blindly to Sonia, Rahul Gandhi or Congress. I am not at all FAN of them.

But.. yes, I am proud Anti-BJP. I vote Congress, just because I am against 'Sanghee ideology' & sadly, I did not find any other option than Congress (as I don't want to waste my voting right)!

I can tolerate Looters for some extent, but not Haters, who divide our nation in the name of Caste, creed & religion.

Let Modi (usually I pronounce him FEKU) issue one statement that, he is distancing himself from Sanghee outfits & its ideology and focus only on 'Development & unity of the Nation'. I will Support him.
