Bantwal, Apr 29: A person, who stayed put in a foreign country in spite of repeated warrants issued by a court relating to a case, was arrested from the airport at Mangaluru on Wednesday April 27 night on arrival from Dubai.

The Bureau of Immigration team made this arrest and handed him over to Vittal police personnel.

Ismail Asif (24) from Kanyana Mandiyooru was the person to have been arrested in this manner. In respect of a case of domestic violence, assault and threat to life lodged by his wife on March 17, 2014, he had been arrested. He had secured bail in this case. Thereafter, he had failed to appear for court hearings, although warrants had been issued repeatedly. The police had thereafter treated him as having absconded to a foreign country.

Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Dr Sharanappa, had issued a lookout circular about Asif on February 16 this year, seeking to hand over him to the police. As soon as Asif landed on Wednesday from Dubai, the immigration team caught hold of him and turned him over to police personnel from Vittal. A team of police personnel working under the guidance of Vittal police sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga, took Asif into custody.

Asif was produced before the senior civil judge of JMFC court here at 10.15 pm on Wednesday, upon which he was remanded to judicial custody.
