Mangalore: 'Matsyagandha Express will not be Extended to Tiruvanantapuram'

Mangalore, Oct 18: Matsyagandha Express, running between Mumbai - Mangalore on daily basis will not be extended to Tiruvanantapuram, Om Prakash, public relation officer, Southern railway declared here on Wednesday October 17.
 
This has relieved the anxious public of coastal Karnataka who had been of the opinion that extension of passenger train services till Tiruvanantapuram would result in problems related to reservation, communication etc.
 
Two separate trains have been running between Mangalore and Mumbai, Tiruvanantapuram and Mangalore. This is a part of the departmental affairs and passengers will not be affected, the officer clarified.

Backing his statement, the officer informed that train No 6347 Lokamanya Tilak express would arrive at 11.15 am at Mangalore and train No 2620 would depart to Mumbai at 12.30 pm.
 
Meanwhile train No 2619 would arrive at Mangalore at 9 am and train No 6348 would leave for Tiruvanantapuram at 2.30 pm. The two cities have been linked in order to cater to the needs of passengers.  No direct ticket will be issued from Tiruvanatapuram to Mumbai and at the same time no one can travel directly between Mumbai and Tiruvanantapuram using the same ticket. There is no room for apprehension and confusion, he clarified.

    It's indeed a great relief that Matsyagandha Express, running between Mumbai - Mangalore on daily basis will not be extended to Tiruvanantapuram. The Railway Authorities are very well known for their autocratic ways. This is especially so in the Southern Railways , more especially across Tamil Nadu. It is all the more reason that Mangalore needs to be a separate Division. It has the MCF and other major Industries around it who will stand to benefit. Presently they have to run to Palghat for every issue. One has to see the manner in which the Bangalore - Mangalore Railway Passenger Train Line has been mis handled. Will such a thing happen to any Major Line in Kerala or Tamil Nadu ? The blame lies soley on our useless politicians as well as all the numerous past Railway Ministers who hailed from Karnataka . It appears that most of them have only lined their pockets or been sleeping in their bogies of comfort. If one were to compare the Railway line connections in Tamil Nadu/Kerala to that in Karnataka,it can be seen that since independence very few new lines have been added in Karnataka. Even the existing ones are not utilised properly. Whereas in Tamil Nadu, we can see how well every District is interlinked on the Railway Map. It is really high time that District headquarters like Bidar, Chickamagalur, Kodagu are all well connected by Rail as well. This will lead to a boon to the travel industry and also benifit the Railways in terms of Freight earnings also.

    This is Good News to us. This may be temporary assurance by Railway Authorities. Our Mangalore Railway Station comes under PALGAHT DIVISION, KERALA (about 400 KM far) runs by SOUTHERN RAILWAY, HEADQUARTERED AT CHENNAI. Therefore, these authorities change their mind every now and then. Matsyagandha Express Train runs by Southern Railway. We have to fight for seperate Mangalore Division to be included in SWR(South Western Railway)ZONE, HQ at HUBLI-KARNATAKA.

    It is said that without the baby crying even mother does not bother to feed the baby with milk! This has been proved by the recent voices that are heard from different quarters of the Mangalorean population with regard to the Konkan Railway Merger with IR and with regard to the extension of Matsyagandha to Tiruvanatapura. That this train will not be extended to T'pura is a welcome news and I congratulate all those who amplified their concern through this column and through other areas. Divided we fall, united we stand! All Mangaloreans, be united with one mind and heart and be sensitive toward the public utility concerns, be that the maintenance of the highways or by-ways, be that electricity with powercuts and shutdowns due to negligence, and other failures. Only then we can keep abreast with the rest of the world which is moving so fast and progressing and one need not wait for the year 2020 to see a developed Mangalore.

    It's a sigh of relief for sure, for us all mangaloreans n coastal karnataka people. We thank the officials who have taken this initiative and a decission, NOT TO EXTEND Matsyagandha Express train up to Trivandrum. What I say is when there are so many trains from Kerala connecting to various prominent cities in the country, why take away the one and only train that we have from Mangalore to Mumbai? Why should we be deprived of this one facility that we had to start from Mangalore in a train that begins from our own city? Hope this decission will be final n it remains so...
