9 job-seeking girls perish in road accident in Chitradurga

Chitradurga, May 1 (DHNS): As many as 10 persons including nine girls returning from a job interview in Bengaluru, were killed after the multiutility vehicle they were travelling rammed a KSRTC bus near Heggere in Challakere taluk in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police, all the nine girls were staying at BCM hostel in Siruguppa of Ballari district and had been to Bengaluru to attend interview at a private company. Pradeep, a computer teacher of Siruguppa, had led the girls for the interview. The accident took place while they were returning to Siruguppa from Bengaluru.

The victims were travelling in a Land Cruiser which had 15 passengers.

The driver of the Cruiser, in his attempt to overtake a private bus, rammed the KSRTC bus coming in the opposite direction and veered to the left. A speeding bus which was coming right behind, hit the Cruiser, virtually crushing the passengers.

While 7 passengers were killed on the spot, one each succumbed to injuries at Challakere, Chitradurga and Davangere hospitals.

The deceased have been identified as Shanthi, Sarita, Bharathi, Shruthi, Jyothi (all 20 years), Sudha Harshita, Jayashree, Kavya (all 21) and Chandregowda, the driver of the Cruiser.

A seriously injured Pradeep is being treated at a hospital in Davangere. The other injured - Nagarathna, Renuka, Sunita and Huligemma - are being treated at district hospital in Chitradurga.

Additional Superintendent of Police K Parashuram and other senior police officers visited the spot. A case has been registered at Challakere police station.

I don't see why people keep pointing fingers at the larger vehicles without knowing facts. Look at these accidents more closely and you'll realize that the moron in 99% of these cases is the smaller vehicle trying to 'show off dexterity'. Bikes and cars cutting paths of bigger vehicles. The long distance vehicle drivers drive so peacefully on long routes. 1 out of 10 might be actually reckless and even those are ones fresh on the road.

Many drivers in India have no consideration whatsoever about other road users.
I was driving once in India, most of the drivers put they beam lights on & drive that's bloody dangerous , It reflect to other drivers eyes & they can't see where they're driving.
If Indian drivers take driving test in UK many will not pass the test the way they drive in India.

Something should "SERIOUSLY" needs to be changed sooner then later in India about driving.

I hear so many lives has been lost on Indian roads sadly with great regret fully in this case...

RIP to the nine and condolences to the next of Kin.

    DRIVERS NEED TO SLOW DOWN.......

Can anyone justify even a gain of 9 hours if it were true against the loss of these 9 young lives who had just begun their journey into adulthood?

And some of them might have been the only hope to their aging parents.

If you drive around you will find people speeding like there was no tomorrow, even the guy on the bicycle is racing against the cars.

    EVERYONE need to slow down...
is a gain of a few minutes or hours worth the loss of life of lives? like in this case.

Main cause of accident none other than over taking. Due to narrow road cannot judge perfectly upcoming vehicles. Better drive slowly..eventhough reach late. In private vehicles driver always on hurry to fetch one more destination. Here also looks like vehicle overcrowded and driver his doing heroic act..as most of the passengers are gals.

    @ SK & Dev Kumar,
Indeed a very sad tragedy and a irreparable loss to their families. But why blame God when it’s solely due to human error? Do you think a merciful, compassionate God who equally loves all human beings had deliberately made this happen? We shouldn’t forget that God has given human beings a gift called wisdom, i.e. the ability to judge, to decide, to think, to act, to do as he likes, etc. Such characteristics are not prevalent in animals. Here this unfortunate tragedy occurred due to the driver’s act of over speeding and overtaking a vehicle on a narrow two way road. And over speeding has been the main cause of accidents in most cases.
