Mangaluru, May 1: Ullal police on Saturday April 30 arrested a person for desecrating the gravestones of former MLA U T Fareed and his wife Naseema Fareed, parents of Ullal MLA and health minister U T Khader. The gravestones situated at Sayyid Mohammed Shareeful Madani Dargah near Ullal were desecrated on Friday April 29.
The arrested person was let off with a warning, after the police found him to be mentally ill.
There were some clashes and misunderstanding in the recent past between two groups regarding the appointment of ad-hoc president to the Ullal Juma Masjid and Sayyid Madani Dargah committee. A group, who had accused U T Khader of interfering in the affairs of the committee, was accused of damaging the gravestones.
Rashid Ullal, the new president of the Sayyid Madani Dargah committee haa condemned the attack on the gravestones.
