Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 4: L K Atheeq, an upright IAS officer known for his transparent and people-friendly approach to bureacracy, and who is closely connected to Mangaluru, has been appointed principal secretary to the chief minister of Karnataka with immediate effect.

Atheeq has been serving as principal secretary to the Karnataka government in the department of personnel and administration (DPAR) since January this year. T K Anil Kumar will take over this post from Atheeq.

The new appointments were announced on May 4.

Atheeq had been the senior advisor to the executive director of World Bank for a period of three years, in Washington DC, US. After the completion of his term in November 2015, he came back to Karnataka and was appointed first as secretary and then principal secretary to the Karnataka government.

Prior to moving to the US, L K Atheeq had served in the Prime Minister's Office for five years, first as director and then as joint secretary to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Atheeq hails from a humble background, being born into an agricultural family in Pavagada, Tumakuru. He began his administrative career as assistant commissioner of Mangaluru and is married into a Mangalurean family. He served as the deputy commissioner of Mandya and Hassan districts and as project director of Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan in Karnataka, before being posted to the PMO.

It may be mentioned here that L K Atheeq had graced Daijiworld's 15th anniversary celebrations held in February this year.

IAS officers are always upright....! They start with principles and discipline.. Unfortunately their bosses are illiterate political krooks and gangsters...! So you imagine if those who survive their boss's onslaught, then they are the great officers...! All the best...
