Kundapur, May 6: Reports said that the driver and conductor of a truck were taken to Kota police station by the personnel of the station, who beat up the duo mercilessly there. The incident occurred on the night of Thursday May 5. The police were angry that the truck staff expressed their resentment at the behaviour of the police who stopped the truck at Tekkatte in the taluk and used filthy language against its driver and conductor.

Nagaraj, who was driving the lorry that was carrying goods to Mangaluru from Mumbai, and conductor, Shivraj, were the ones who came under brutal attack of the police personnel. Shivaraj and Nagaraj from Vandse in the tlauk were carrying the sports goods in the truck owned by them.

The brothers had stopped their truck at Hemmady, had dinner at their home, and were bound for Mangaluru. Barricade had been set up on national highway 66 near Tekkatte where a police constable on duty signalled their truck to stop. When truck driver, Nagaraj, stopped the truck, the police asked the documents of the vehicle to be presented. When the brothers were searching for vehicle records, the police used derogatory words and urged them to give the papers immediately. Both Nagaraj and Shivaraj objected to the abusive language used against them. The constable, who got angry at this, called four other personnel, took both of them to Kota police station, tied them up and attacked them. Shivaraj, who faced this brutality, said that before allowing them to do, the police threatened them of showing similar brutality against them if they complained to anyone about this incident.

Both the assaulted persons got admitted for treatment into a private hospital in the town. Udupi District Lorry Owners and Drivers Association has expressed deep anguish at this incident, and demanded action against the guilty policemen. District president of the association, Rajesh Kaveri, speaking to the media, condemned the atrocities. He said that this incident has been brought to the notice of district superintendent of police, Annamalai, and warned of undertaking strong agitation if steps to punish the guilty are not taken.

we may not be able to say anything until we know the truth. Not sure police are so merciless to beat them just like that. It may be the response from these brothers also would have provoked police to go to this extreme. any ways... Annamalai will be able to drill both the parties and bring out the facts.
