Mangaluru: MCC launches free tank service to provide drinking water

Mangaluru, May 7: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Saturday May 7 launched free tank service to provide drinking water at Karavali Uthsav stadium. MCC will be assisted by the contractors association in this venture.

Mayor Harinath launched the service along with the corporators and the MCC officials.









Speaking on the occasion, mayor Harinath said, “Even though it has not rained, we will be able to manage the situation. As many as 56 tankers have been allotted and the contractors association has given 30 vehicles for free as per our request.”

“Along with this, we have dug new borewells in every ward. I request all the drivers to cooperate and we seek the full cooperation from all the corporators,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion MCC commissioner Gopalkrishna said, “We are ready to help public in all ways to solve the drinking water issue. Wherever the tankers cannot reach and the highlands where the water pressure is not enough the vehicles will supply the water. We have identified 174 private borewells and 90 open wells in the city. We have also identified 18 to 20 points for the new borewells and drilling work and giving them electric connection is in progress. The builders have also promised 25 water sources to help us. We thank the contractors association for the vehicles.”

"The valve-men and engineers must cooperate and monitor the need. Every vehicle will make 7 to 8 trips in providing the water to the needy. There has to be a log book in the vehicle and water must be supplied to everyone,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion the leader of opposition Roopa Bangera said, “Few places are not getting the drinking water due to various reasons. The water must reach to every household.”

President of contractors association Mohandas Shetty also spoke on the occasion. Corporator Lancelot Pinto compered the program.

Former mayor Jacintha Alfred, former deputy mayor Kavitha Vasu, corporators Sabitha Misquith, Asha D'silva, Ashok DK and others were present.

    Good initiative undertaken to ease the hardships of people of mangalore. Let there be borewells in each ward of the city connected to water distribution pipelines.

    MCC's successful efforts to organise with Contractors Asscn. and other staff\Drivers to use their vehicles etc. to supply water to the needy will go a long way with the public.
    This is how Govt. \ Ministers \ MLAs and other civic authorities should join together and work "For the People" especially during these difficult times.

    Let this not be the first and last.

    My hats off to MCC for this unique launching. Water scarcity has become a big issue all over and people are going through lot of hardship. This free tank service to provide drinking water will solve the crisis to some extent.

    What a timely and noble gesture on the part of MCC to launch a voluntary drive for free tank services providing drinking water for the thirsty public.

    This is a classic evidence how our elected officials feel responsible for catering the needs of the public especially when the global climate creates so much of concern for water needs of the public. This is how the peace and harmony will prevail amongst all people, rich poor, to realize how much the City officials care for them and their families.

    Hopefully, God will hear our prayers and the long awaited monsoon will dawn upon Mangalore and the rest of India so that our rivers will be filled and so also our water tanks and water pipes.

    Water will always remain as a precious commodity, and the more water we conserve the more water will remain in our tanks for our long term survival and needs.
