Bantwal, May 8: The ‘Mother India Crochet Queens’ (MICQ) group achieved Guinness World record in preparing the longest crochet blanket. A mother and daughter in the group hailing from Bantwal have brought laurels to Bantwal.






Anuradha Prabhu, wife of Ramaprasad Prabhu, resident of Bantwal Thyagaraja road and their daughter Anusha Prabhu are the mother and daughter in the group. Anuradha Prabhu is a house wife and conducts part time craft classes. Anusha is 8th standard student.

2,472 women from India had participated in the competition. Mother India Crochet Queens based in Chennai had formed the group through Facebook. Besides Anuradha Prabhu and Anusha Prabhu, Mangaluru’s Ashwitha and Puttur’s Durgadevi had also registered their names in the group.

The group prepared 11,148 square meters crochet. The earlier record in the preparation of Crochet was held by a South African group which had prepared 3,348 square meters Crochet. The Mother India Crochet group has broken this record.

The competition was held in Chennai’s Thoraipakkam MNM Engineering College on January 31, 2016.

Anuradha Prabhu expressed her happiness that her group was successful. More than 150 women from Karnataka had participated in the competition. She said that it took six months to prepare the crochet and several people helped her in the task.

The carpet was later donated to various charities and orphanages after dismantling it.  

The certificate was received by the mother and daughter recently.
