Mangalore, Oct 23: The Federation of Karnataka Christian Association (FKCA) organized felicitation programme for the community representatives and future leaders who won and contested the local body elections, on Monday October 22 evening.

Speaking on this occasion, well-known scholar and secretary of diocesan pastoral council Stephen Quadros said that the leaders should have concern on the community which has selected them. The Christian community is losing its originality in state. That is why the newly-elected Christian leaders should strive for retaining the identity of the community, he asked.

At the same time he advised the leaders to maintain time sense. Dr Manmohan Singh has attained 3 doctoral degrees from Cambridge University. Yet he is spending 2 hours daily, for knowledge acquiring. The newly-elected leaders should take Dr Manmohan Singh as their role model in acquiring knowledge, he said.

Eric Ozario, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, urged that, the local body leaders should raise their voice against the pathetic roads of the state.

  

   

More than hundred Christian local body representatives from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmaglur, Karwar and Shimoga districts, who won and competed for the elections, were felicitated on this occasion. Ekalavya award winning swimmer Aniketh D’Souza, national-level best teacher award winner George Castelino Nakre, politicians Ivan D’Souza and Felix D’Souza were too felicitated on the occasion.

FKCA president Ronald Colaco presided over the function. Catholic Sabha president Lancy D’Cunha and Konkani Prachar Sanchalan president Roy Castelino were present on the dais. Stany Alvares welcomed the gathering. Roshan Castelino proposed vote of thanks. Santhosh D’Costa compered the programme.

    I am a Keralite, settled in Mangalore since 1991. According to my observation, the Mangalorean catholics are one of the most vibrant, talented and decent community in India, but least conscious in politics. These days, Christians are targetted as 'anti social' by fundamental forces without any valid reasons. The only way to show our unity and strength is by making a presence in politics. My sincere appreaciation to Federation of Karnataka Christian Association and Catholic Sabha in their efforts to promote Christians in politics.

    More and more get togethers of this king should be organized in the future, to remind the elected representatives of their promises made to improve the infrastructure of the region and to make public beware of communal forces which rust the social life of the region. People should be made to elect the anti-communal leader for the benefit of the region.

    This a good gesture of FKCA in organising a felicitation programme to support and encourage the newly elected corporators and other achievers in the community. Now we will hope and pray that the elected representatives will show their commitment not only to the community but for the region assigned to them.

    Excellent programme organised by Federation of Karnataka Christian Association (FKCA).This is the first of its king , I never heard in the history of South Kanara. i am sure , it will encourage each and every one who participated in this function to do more in their respective field. Thanks to the organiser for a well arranged get together of of the community.
