Udupi, May 11: A report on illegal sand mining with the help of machines, at Mogaveerapete in Kokkarne grama panchayat limits was published by Daijiworld on Saturday May 7. As a result of the news, Brahmavar Tahasildar Thippeswamy, revenue inspector Shivaram and Kokkarne grama panchayat PDO Ananthapadmanabha conducted a raid on the site on Tuesday, May 10.
However the raid seemed more of eyewash just because the report was published. It was not to completely stop mechanized sand mining. The officials did not seize any of the machinery or vehicles. Instead they let the mine owners to take them away.
There were a dredging machine, a Hitachi, 2 tempos and 2 lorries. But the officials did not seize any of them. The local people have expressed their anguish at the developments.
The officials of mining and geology were absent during the operation. The higher officials had been informed about the illegal sand mining earlier but no raids were held.
More than Rs 5 lac worth sand is being transported from here daily but the government has not taken any action. The roads have been completely damaged with continuous transport of sand.
The sand that is not available for local people is reportedly being sold outside the district for exorbitant prices. The construction of more than 100 Ashraya homes in Kokkarne grama has been stopped due to artificial scarcity of sand.

Yes, I too believe that this so called raid was just an eye wash. But I pity the poor man who was resting under the comfort of the fan or the air conditioner, had to come out in the hot sun with a bottle of mineral water. Those who work in the government and who are expected to work for the people, if they are found siding with those who indulge in anti people activities, such people should be shunted out of their positions and shown the door. But when can we expect this to happen?
Putting their attendance, salary will follow.
this is the best example for good governance of Karnataka Siddaramayya govt. every time congress govt is very strict & conduct the raids. but don't ask the results.
Illegal mining need to be eradicated in total and guilty to be arrested for life,Separate squad may be formed and control this activity without any exception.
So called dishonest Govt servants are the biggest cancer to this nation. They mint money like anything. Anybody can get any certificates, any permits, any civil or criminal case closed, provided you have the appropriate connection with a Govt. servant. I have seen land records that changed overnight, without standard paper work, in many parts of the country. Broad day light murderer can be walking free and a victim himself could be termed as murderer. So nothing is impossible for a corrupt, daring and well connected criminal brain.As Indians first thing we have is fear and the fear is exploited day in and day out.

This Govt Servant TippeSwami, appears to have eaten quite a lot of Sand in his Stomach. Such an incompetent people these are. Because of these Sand eating Govt Servants, so much of Govt revenue gets not collected through the Tax, hence causing loss to the Govt exchequer, ultimately impacting on Development of State/Country.
