Mangaluru, May 12: A constable from Bengaluru stands jailed in Mangaluru after snatching away ornaments of a woman here. He has been identified as Sandesh attached to Mahalaxmi Layout police station, Bengaluru. He happens to be a resident of Sanjeevi Nagar there.

Sandesh had gone missing since first week of April this year. After his wife, Pavitra, failed to find his whereabouts in spite of widespread efforts, she had filed a missing complaint at Rajagopalnagar police station at Bengaluru on May 5. A few days back, Pavitra received a phone call on her mobile phone by a man who told her that her husband was hale, hearty, and safe. When she tried to call back this number, it had been switched off.

Pavitra conveyed this information to police. The police personnel, during their verification, found that the call had been made from inside the prison at Mangaluru. Thereafter, a police team was dispatched here, which found on verification, that their missing colleague was lodged inside the prison for robbing a woman.

Sandesh, who arrived in the city on April 12, had knocked at the doors of a house in Kodialbail here. In the guise of seeking water to drink, he had rushed into the house, and escaped after snatching away ornaments worn by the lady there. Within two days, he was arrested by the the police. Sandesh falsely claimed himself to be Hullura from Chamaraja Nagar, who had come to the city seeking to work as coolie.

During fresh questioning, Sandesh revealed that he had huge borrowings at his place. He was also frustrated at the fact that he had no offspring even after six years of married life. He said he had come here to end his life, and took to crime instead during the visit.
