Kochi: 16 persons rescued from Libya return home

Kochi, May 12 (PTI) : It was an emotional homecoming for 16 Indians rescued from strife-torn Libya as they reached here today.

All of them are from Kerala and are among 29 Indians evacuated after they were stranded in Libya.

They left by flight from the Libyan city of Tripoli to Istanbul, from where they came to Dubai and then to Kochi, Non-Resident Keralite Affairs CEO R S Kannan said.


Anxious relatives hugged their loved ones and many were in tears after the rescued nationals arrived at Nedumbassery airport here.

Three Tamil Nadu residents, who were among the 29 persons rescued, would go directly to that state from Dubai, he told PTI.

The news that they had been rescued and would return home had been broken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday at an election rally in nearby Tripunithara.

"I have some good news for you. Six families from Kerala and three Tamil Nadu residents, who were stranded in Libya, will return home safely tomorrow or day after. In total 29 persons have been rescued," he had told a BJP election meeting.

    If kerala became singapur under congress(if not somalia) then why this keralites even after warning going to war torn country. We dont hav embassy. Most of the airports not operational. Long back govt spent millions to evacuate. Still keralites not willing to return to kerala. Very recently a mother n kid died in bombing. Why cant chandy create job n prevent these men going to war torn countries.

    Some Daiji friends are commenting about Modi & Somalia issue..First of all people don't have patience to listen or read what Mr.Modi said. It happened many times..eg: Rs 15 lac to Indian citizen..He said " If we bring black money from Swiss Bank,then each Indian will get Rs.15 lacs" Such a huge black money is lying in Swiss Account..Anti Modi people twisted it and started saying in a differnt way.. Now Somalia case...

    What did Modiji say in Kerala..

    He said "Death rate of ST/Adivsasis in Kerala is going up in such a speed that even in Somalia we can't see such a scenes..That is true...If you are a regular viewer of Asia Net News channel,you come to know the plight of Adivasis..Politicians have taken their land and made it resorts..They are homeless,deprived of food,medical,shelter..everything...What Modiji said is 100% correct..If you still don't believe..sorry..even Brahma can't convince you...

    Yes bhuvan, Now a days media is being used only to give publicity to FEKU.

    The efforts taken by current Foreign Ministry is appreciable, but don't say, before 2 years, Govt left people die in foreign countries.

    Can you give list of names, who lost their life in foreign countries, due to negligence of India's central government?

    Even earlier Govts were doing sincere efforts to rescue people, who are abroad & was in problem. But, media was least bothered to give coverage. But now.... what to say!
