Mangaluru, May 12: The atmosphere has changed from clear skies to cloudy in almost all parts of coastal twin districts and moderate rains have been pouring since Thursday evening.

In Mangaluru city, the rain has gained momentum. It got its first rain of the season on Wednesday in the form of light showers. But today's it rained heavier.

To the relief of the people temperature throughout the region has come down. It is believed that water woes are things of the past.

People were seen carrying umbrellas for the first time this summer as they were sure that rains are here to remain.

Moderate thunder and lightening are being experienced in most parts of the region. Bantwal and Mangaluru received good rains, as per reports.

Meteorological department has predicted good monsoon this time. The pre-monsoon showers are therefore as expected. Of course this is a huge relief for all of us without water.
Lets not forget our individual responsibility for rainwater harvesting. We cannot simply say our prayers are heard and continue washing off our hands to the responsibility that we individuals have. Hani Koodi halla is very apt expression for micro level rain water conservation.
All the areas that are without water : these same areas allow the rain water to go waste during monsoon. Every 20 Km if there is a lake rain water can percolate down and especially towards the end of the monsoon can can serve to retain the ground water level for few more months.

I tend to believe: God helps those who help themselves. Lets pray for unity and wisdom to act on rain water harvesting to take DEEP ROOTS in our coastal region.

Very True. God has helped us even though we have neglected the natural resources. We should keep in mind that nature's resources has to be used very carefully. Because it is not only human beings but also others like animals, trees and all other components of earth require them and it their right also. We humans think that natural resources are only meant for us.
So we should care in this regard.
Following would help in preserving water.
    1. Rain water harvest.
    2. Rejuvenate wells lakes or ponds and use it instead of only depending on river water.
    3. Clean river.
    4. Plant trees.
    5. Never damage nature by filling wells & ponds, cutting trees, destroying mountains etc

Time for SID to go to bed for Nidde. Work done by nature. In DK only our DC Mr. Ibrahim was the worried man due to water shortage. All other MP's and MLA's went underground during the tough situation. Now you can see all of them coming out of the den and showing their 32 teeths. Why do we need such representatives guys.

stop percolating into the seas/oceans a mere waste...
    1/ build mini/micro dams.
2/Build diaphragm walls in catchment areas..
    3/dig bore wells..
4/collect the water in reservoirs and distribute it evenly building 3 meters dia Steel or pipes..
    5/ seek advise..consult nations like Israel...japan.. koreans

abdulla, you have said everything, 90% of which we should not do!. What you have missed is nature!. Do you know that planting more trees and conserving whatever is left is the best solution for all water problems!. Roots of trees run deep and these take the water to the deepest points inside the earth. Also the organic things like leaves make the earth porous thereby helping in water absorption. Have you seen water flowing out of thick forests!?. Today every building, every path is covered with interlocking blocks and people think its beautiful!. Unless we think deeper and change our mindset, all our artificial methods will fail ultimately!.

DIGGING MORE WELLS WILL WORSEN THE DROUGHT SITUATION, WATER TABLE HAS GONE DOWN CONSIDERABLY DUE TO BORES!!

MANY BORES HAVE GONE DRY THIS YEAR, SEE NEXT YEAR???

REMEMBER "LATUR" BECAME A DESERT MAINLY COZ OF UNRESTRICTED DIGGING OF BORES!! NOW DIGGING BORES IN MAHARASHTRA IS STRICTLY REGULATED!!
