MRPL confident of convincing Pejawar Swamiji, land owners, for expansion

Mangaluru, May 13: In response to opposition expressed by Pejawar Math Swamiji, Sri Vishveshateertha, to the fresh expansion plan of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), the company said that it will take up expansion plan only after obtaining concurrence for land acquisition from 70 percent of owners as required, and duly convincing the Swamiji about the need for expansion.

It may be recalled that addressing a press conference at Udupi on Wednesday May 11, the Swamiji had stoutly opposed the expansion plan for which Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board is making preparations for land acquisition in Permude and Kutettoor villages. He had said that he was opposing the plan because of its long-ranging ramifications on environment pollution.

Managing director of MRPL, H Kumar, who held a press conference here on Thursday May 12 on the issue, said that the company will undertake expansion plans only after holding discussions with the Swamiji and locals, besides obtaining nod for land acquisition from 70 percent of land owners. He strongly advocated expansion of MRPL as he argued that it is in the interests of the development of the country. At the same time, he confessed that he is aware of opposition for the 1,050 acres of land proposed to be acquired for the project through KIADB from locals.

"As per the guideline issued by the central government, we have to adapt ourselves to the BS-6 norm by the year 2020. For this, we need additional land. Our company will be investing Rs 4,500 crore for this expansion plan. However, we are determined to take locals into confidence before proceeding with expansion plan," he added.

Kumar stated that his company would be ploughing back the profit earned by it for expansion as well as repayment of loans. Therefore, he added, that the company does not propose to distribute any dividend to its shareholders this time. "The company earned profit of Rs 1,353 crore in the last quarter of the previous financial year. The Board of Directors has decided to utilise this money for development initiatives of the company," he explained.

    MRPL has already acquired more than the required acres of land and caused huge pollution in the region. Hence there should be a stop further expansion in the interest of the environment. Expansion only seems to be a pretext to mint money. Now it’s imperative to preserve the forests and agricultural lands around MRPL in order to maintain the ecological balance in the region.

    More over MRPL and its associate companies in that zone are giving jobs only to outsiders.

    Main motive is to grab from locals and give it to outsiders.
    And our political representatives are not taking any action, moreover they are chasing locals from protesting .

    Permude and Kuthethur villages are mostly covered by Christians and Bunts. Pejavara Swamiji is not the representative for these communities. There are leaders both in Christian community and Bunts Community who would take appropriate decisions at right time. MRPL is not acquiring Krisha Matt property.They are acquiring private properties and also giving employment to the youth , one central government job per family plus other benefits. Pejavara Swamiji wants Christian youth and Bunts Youth not to get employment? There are very few Brahmin families in this area. After previous denotification of land in this area, hundreds of youth trained by MSEZL were lost their job opportunities and they have been totally demoralised. For few NGO s protesting against companies has become money making business. They write project reports, show false programmes in the name of environment and make money. So public needs to be educated about these NGOs who work against the interest of nation.

    Please note people who live around MRPL also should get job and all the facilities, because of all the pollution and people are getting into new sickness day by day, mostly heart diseases.

    Swamiji has taken some initiative lets all join our hands with him and get down for protest.

    People dont separate on religion, this is our weak point which political people take advantage off .. unite as a human being .. Lets get strong..

    It is a good move by MRPL should be supported by Swaamiji.
    No doubt, lot of Locals from Udupi & Mangalore will get jobs.
    It will boost the economy of both State & the central.
    Sacrifices are must for the progress of the country.
    I can understand the plight of the land lords as well & hope they will get their fair share.

    Please do not give any land to MRPL, why still people of Dakshina kannada and udupi have not learnt a lesson. There is still water shortage in Mangalore and udupi still no rain in sight, If fertile agricultural land is given to MRPL what will remain? A fully grown up tree holds around 50 thousand liters of water in its roots.when whole world is moving away from fossil fuels towards much greener alternatives like solar and wind and cars like Tesla are making a mark, why mangalore's politicians are quiet? why environment is destroyed?Recently some units of MRPL shut down cause of scarcity of water. In any country in the world they do not build refineries near the green belt or near agricultural or forest land, but in Mangalore everything happening exactly the opposite .They did yettinahole and no one could stop, for a few dollars more our country's businessman and politicians will sell the country. Long live my country. MRPL has not come as a boon to Mangalore.

    Earlier these type of chances are being grabbed by Mangalore/Udupi's thutuda jobless netas cum politicians who used to stage protest in day time and sit along with company bosses in the evening and going home with suit cases.
    Now trend changed and swamijies are in limelight and doing their best to collect funds in a bigger way. I think many swamijies will join the protest and grab the best opportunities.
    Our rulers know very well that DK, Udupi is the best place to dump all nonsense project as people here are too busy with daily routine unlike other places.
    No company dares to settle down at Hassan without Deve Gowda's consent.

    MRPL Officials do not go for any expansion .Let Mangalorean live peacefully with the present Environment .More of expansion of MRPL or any petrochemical plant will only worsen the environment and pollute with H2s, CO Gases will be released in and around the environment to give us sickness live lungs infection , cancer and finally death. WHERE IS THE LAND VACANT LEFT NOW FOR RESIDENCIAL NEED. MRPL MOVE AWAY FROM MANAGLORE . WE DO NOT GET ANY BENEIFTS FROM MRPL ..ONLY DISPLACEMENT OF FARMERS AND PEOPLE LIVING IN AND AROUND...MANGALOREANS SHOULD PROTEST AND SAVE ON LAND OF TAULLUVARS..JAI TULLUVARA'S
