Mangaluru, May 13: "Nethravati Rakshana Samyukta Samithi along with various organizations will hold a massive protest rally on Monday May 16 from Jyothi circle to DC office at 3.00 pm. We demand a stop to the ongoing Yethinahole project." president of Nethravati Rakshana Samyukta Samithi Vijaya Kumar Shetty made the announcement at a press meet here on Friday, May 13.

Shetty further said that in three years of his administration, the chief minister has offered various 'Bhagya' to the people, but the people of Dakshina Kannada district were only offered 'water scarcity bhagya'. "The political representatives, especially ministers of this region are mainly responsible for this." he said.

Pointing to the district in-charge minister, Ramanath Rai he said, "At least he should approach the experts on this project. He is not responding on Yethinahole because he is stuck to his chair and has to save it."

Reacting to Rai's statement on the connection between water scarcity and Yethinahole project said, "I have come to understand his level of knowledge. Activists have made several attempts to meet the CM but in vain. People will support the cause and take part in the rally irrespective of party affiliation, castes and religion. Many organisations will participate."

Harikrishna Bantwal speaking on the occasion said, "70% water from the river Nethravati is used by the city. I request people of the city especially people who live in the MCC limits to make this rally 'Mangaluru Chalo' by coming to the streets demanding the halt to the project and to save the river Nethravati,"

Activist M G Hegde, slamming the expert committee panel formed by MLC Ivan D'Souza to prepare a comprehensive report on water crisis in Dakshina Kannada panel, consisting of advocate Dayanath Kotian, professor Vivek Rai and N A Madhyastha, said, "These three dignitaries should withdraw their names from this panel. Without saving Nethravati, there is no solution for water scarcity. These dignitaries have to face the protest from the people. District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, D V Sadananda Gowda and Veerappa Moily are trying to curb our struggle through their supporters."

Satyajit Surathkal said, "The government should stop the project and approach the people for negotiations. If not, the government has to face severe consequences. If the project is not stopped or the government fails to negotiate after the rally, then mightier protest will be called within 15 days,"

Former deputy mayor Purushotham Chitrapura, Dinakar Shetty, Yogish Shetty Jeppu and others were present in the press meet.

Now a trailer of film is being screened freely for the people by deploying water tankers and politicians are capitalizing on a tragedy. Alas! Mangaloreans are not able to gauge the most horrific film the God is going to release in a short while, if River Nethravathy is diverted. "Everybody for himself" seems to be the attitude of city people. They forget their political masters owns luxury villas elsewhere and a drought in this region is not going to effect their prospects any more. Wake-up from the deep slumber, Mangaloreans! Respond at least now to save your motherland!! If not now, never. Access to local resources is your birth right. Diverting it without your consent is an offence and, hence, need to be resisted. Whwen the whole state is reeling under darught, your CM is releasing full page advertisements in national dailies with his photos and is firming his prospects in the next election. Cost of one advertisement is enough to supply water for whole Mangalore for a month!!!!

I think, before proceeding with the project. Central and State, both need to build reservoirs for DK and Udupi district with proper planning considering population growth of next 30 years.

Bele Ijjandi Achaarilu...If the YHP is done then the soil will have more water from Sakleshpur to Bantwal.
    These are dumb people.
they must take a chopper and go to the sky and see it from up then they will understand.
The project is made at few hundreds feets height of the Uppinangadi water level, means it has no affect on Nethravathi at all.
Whoever talking should go and see the real project then talk.

Without doubt, as the district in charge minister, Mr. Ramanath Rai should fight for the people of this region. But forget about fighting, this man is not even lifting a finger. I fail to understand what stuff is he made of. Totally not concerned about the people. It is a curse that the district is under his charge. Its progress has been halted. Neither does he spearhead its progress nor does he allow anybody to take the lead. He is only worried about himself and his chair. The C.M. probably does not want this district to march ahead, that is why perhaps he made Rai the district in charge. Khader would certainly have been a much better choice. Rai should be chucked out and somebody who is really interested in the welfare of the people should be given the charge. The earlier he is booted out, the better it will be for the people of this district. We do not want the Yettinahole project. Let Rai raise his voice against this project and I will be the first to respect him if he does that. Does he have it in him to do that?
