Traffic police who placed duty above comfort, undeterred by rain

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 14: When the citizens rushed to cover themselves after sudden downpour was experienced in the city on Thursday May 12 evening, there was one person who remained unmoved by this development. Driven by the urge to discharge his duties honestly, traffic policeman, Bopaiah, exemplified his sincerity and duty-consciousness.

Bopaiah honoured by police commissioner

Bopaiah was entrusted with traffic control work at the circle near bunts Hostel in the city. Even when the rain drenched him completely, Bopaiah stayed put at the spot allotted to him, and successfully regulated traffic at a time his services were most needed because the drivers were struggling to negotiate vehicle on account of blurred vision.

When questioned, Bopaiah said he considers discharging of duties as his foremost principle, as the people would have faced problems if he had gone away from the spot to save himself from the rain. Assistant commissioner of police (traffic),. Uday Nayak, said that officials of the department including city police commissioner and deputy police commissioner had recognized Bopaiah's duty-consciousness approach and praised him. "I am happy that people are noticing those who discharge their duties sincerely. He is a role model for other personnel of the department," he felt.

Bopaiah, who had worked as traffic policeman from 1998 to 2004, was working in rural and Kavoor polcie stations later, before getting posted to traffic department again a year back. He happens to be a native of Kodagu district.

Well done Bops and all the best. But the authorities should have some sense and should see to it that the signal which is installed should function not only when it rains and even otherwise. Waste of tax payers money in installing the signal lights and Mangalore tried to become a "Smart City". If we have good infra structure then there wont be any problem for the cops to deliver their duties.

Well done Bopi - congrats. But as someone pointed out in these columns what about your monsoon gear ?? Are you not given a good raincoat, gum boots, reflector and electronic signals ?? Without this how can you work as a traffic cop ? Great guts you have to work under testing conditions. Hope you become a role model for other lazy traffic officials. Well done Bopi - after all you are a brave Kodava ! Isn't it ?? Regards, DENZIL FERNANDES, MANGALORE

Hope the top brass in the Police Force appreciate the difficulties such selfless cops are working under, suitably reward them by fast-tracking their promotions and compulsorily provide them with safety devices for their safety & protection.

...a big salute to you sir.
be more diligent in the office instead of appraisal you may be pulled down but wishes of all the people for the selfless duty & bravery nothing would harm you in turn become a blessing.
    Long live dear Bopaiah.

Still there are many good n sincere people but the system doesn't allow them to be sincere.

Authorities utterly failed to provide security and safety protection for the lower officers...traffic lights maintenance is havoc with little rain!!

    To the Commissioner,
This picture only shows the department is not poorly equipped in terms of infrastructure.

The basis necessity of reflector jacket, raincoat, mask and handheld portable signs are missing.

How often these lower order get health check up?

Does the superiors really care for the lower order?

Mr.Bopaiah your service is appreciable and should be consider in your appraisal.

    Jai hind

he is a victim of under maintenance of traffic lights...
See the picture and traffic light is not working and he has to undergo the hardship...

Indians are good in only REACTIVE not PROACTIVE...
Please punish those who are responsible for the bad maintenance of traffic lights..

Another cause of this hardship is due to erring drivers. If everyone sticks to the traffic rule, we can avoid such hardship.

Rain does not only comes to Mangalore. When it rains here, no police need to undergo any hardship only because the government ensures the traffic light maintenance is excellent and people don't violate the traffic rules...

True... His service is valuable one.

At the same time Police dept should think of quick supply of dresses that suits to face rain by them.

It is always danger to stand in high / open place when lightening with thunderstorm is bombarding the area. What precautionary measure Police dept has to protect their staff from danger ?

It is dangerous to use wireless devices also at that time as it will spoil the ear of police.
