Wrist watch haunts CM again, new complainant lodged with ACB

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 14: RTI activist, T J Abraham, has filed a fresh complaint with Anti Corruption Bureau, thus lending a fresh lease of life to the controversy surrounding costly Hublot wrist watch the chief minister (CM) used to wear, which was said to cost between Rs 50 - 70 lac. As per the complaint, the watch was handed over to the chief minister by executive engineer in the public works department, L Raghu.

The complaint names six persons as accused. They include PWD minister, H C Mahadevappa, PWD executive engineer, L Raghu, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board chairman, Laxman, and Dr Girish Chandra Varma, who it is being claimed, had presented the watch to the CM, and the CM himself. The complainant has claimed that there have been many shady transactions relating to the said Hublot watch. Alleging that the certificate issued by Dr Girish Chandra Varma stating that he himself had gifted the watch to the CM was false, the ACB has been urged to conduct detailed investigation into this matter.

"Lokayukta police had raided the house of PWD executive engineer, L Raghu, after registering a case of having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income in 2012. Lokayukta additional director general of police had written to the government in 2014 seeking permission to conduct investigation against Raghu. Even after sending two to three reminders to the government on this issue, there was no response. The letter seeking permission had been given by the CM to minister, Mahadevappa, who retained the latter in his office," the complainant has claimed.

The watch was given to the CM in the form of bribe in return for the favour done by way of not issuing permission to investigate him. The watch arrived during first week of December, and it was bought by paying Rs 1.25 crore. Out of three watches, one was given to the CM, and the other was given to minister, Mahadevappa. The third one been retained by Raghu, it has been claimed.

Congress has spread virus called corruption and nepotism all these years and it is in the people's blood. It is very difficult to eradicate completely unless we have Congress Mukth India. Why can't we have better transparency system when uting tenders. There should be details of all bidders and what ground the tenders are awarded. All these information should be available in public domain. Politicians should their assets Six months before their term. Instead of crying on spoiled milk when it is too late.

Allegations, allegations and allegations! Whenever and wherever there is a Congress govt, there are plenty of allegations against the govt, Congress leaders for many years now. But to this date, not a single allegation has been proven and guilty, if any, are convicted and punished. What does it mean? Is the opposition and people are raking up issues just for the sake of it without any evidences and to grab headlines? It happened with the previous UPA govt and there were hoards of allegations of corruption against them. UPA was toppled and NDA came in. Two years have passed and not a single chargesheet has been filed anywhere in India against Gandhis and Vadras. Instead there are new allegations now in the same old fashion. Just 'hit-n-run'. It's the same case with Congress govt in the state. Ever since this govt came into existence 3 years ago, the opposition parties have been throwing up allegations. But to this date, not a single complaint even has been filed, forget about charge sheet. Both BJP and JDS initially talked about Arkavathi Denotification and JDS even printed a booklet about this. In DK Ravi issue BJP shouted from their roof top demanding CBI enquiry. It was done but CBI is yet to complete investigation. Similar is the case of Hublot watch, setting up of ACB, tenders for setting up Diagnostic Lab involving CM's son, bribery allegations against minister Anjaneya's wife, Lokayukta issue. Opposition parties and a few individuals have been making allegations for 3 years but none of cases have been taken to a logical end. It looks like the aim and purpose of these allegations is just to malign the govt and topple is somehow since they cannot use the tricks used in Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand etc due to the absolute majority that the present govt enjoys. Those who make allegations should be tried and punished, if they fail to prove them in the Court of Law. Then only these ‘hit-n-run’ cases aimed at maligning the ruling party/govt will reduce.
