Ajman: Thumbay Hospital marks Nurses Day

Ajman, May 14: Thumbay Hospital, one of the leading academic hospitals and part of Gulf Medical University’s teaching facilities under Thumbay Group marked International Nurses Day 2016 with a variety of celebrations from May 8.












The celebrations started with the lighting of the lamp and professional oath taking ceremony at the hospital on Sunday May 8, held in the presence of Dr Gurjit Singh Monga - chief operating officer of Thumbay Hospital, Dr Prashanth Hegde – medical director of Thumbay Hospital and other members of the administrative team of the hospital.

The nursing staff of the hospital organized a health awareness exhibition at the hospital on Wednesday May 11. Dr Manvir Singh Walia - administrative director of the healthcare division of Thumbay Group inaugurated the exhibition which had charts, models and presentations emphasising the importance of health awareness and hygiene.

The final phase of the celebrations was marked by the Annual Nurses Cultural Fest on Thursday May 12 at the Gulf Medical University campus, where nurses of the city's Thumbay Hospital showcased their talent by performing songs, dances and skits. The chief guest of the event was Prof Gita Ashok Raj, provost of Gulf Medical University. Dr Gurjit Singh Monga, chief operating officer of Thumbay Hospital Ajman, Dr Prashanth Hegde, medical director of Thumbay Hospital Ajman and other members of the administrative team of the hospital were present at the event.

Awards were presented to the following nurses, for their outstanding services: Bindu Baby (best nursing supervisor), Regha Kottappuram Varghese (best charge nurse), Niya Francis (Thumbay Clinic Ajman), Thankam Binoy (Thumbay Clinic UAQ), Agnes Roche (Thumbay Clinic RAK), Swapna Mathew Raj (Nightigale of Right Wing), Reni Thampi Thampi (Nightigale of Left Wing), Ashapriya Mendonca (Nightigale of ICU), Ms. Jenny George (Nightigale of ER), Ms. Luzviminda Villena Dominguez (Nightigale of Labour Room), Cherry Rose Biscayda Magat (Nightigale of OT), Amitha Figredo (Nightigale of OPD), Shanthi Crasta (Nightigale of NICU), Janet Benzimen D'Souza (Nightigale of Dental), Babu Jacob (Nightigale of Dialysis), Lourdin D'Souza (best care assistant award), Shibu  Kudavasseril John (best care assistant award), Mary Grace Unabia Tamargo (best medical orderly), Soy Cheriyan (patient favourite), Ida Nayana Rego (best groomed nurse), Ronnel (role model for courtesy). The best nursing unit award was bagged by dental. Awards for the best poster/model presentation of the health awareness exhibition were also distributed at the function. Awards of appreciation were given to 23 nurses for completing 10 years of service at the hospital.
