Kerry, Saudi king discuss Middle East conflicts


Riyadh, May 15 (IANS): US Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday discussed with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, Salman and Kerry met in Jeddah and discussed aspects of cooperation between the two countries and the latest developments in the region.

Kerry also met Crown Prince, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, especially in fighting terrorism, Efe news reported.

The US diplomat will meet Deputy Crown Prince, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Defence Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, according to the US embassy in Riyadh.

Upon arriving in Jeddah, Kerry met his Saudi counterpart Adel al-Jubeir, the Saudi foreign ministry said.

Both Washington and Riyadh support the Syrian opposition against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, while in Yemen Saudi Arabia is leading a US-approved military coalition against the rebel Shia Houthi movement.
