Puttur, May 16: Thieves entered the home of advocate, K R Acharya, at Tenkila here by breaking open the door lock on the rear side of the house and stole valuables. They opened the cupboards and sifted through the contents before picking the things they wanted on the night of Saturday May 14.

The advocate had locked his house on May 13 and left for Hyderabad on personal work. The thieves targetted his house the next day. The theft came to light when the housemaid of the family visited the house on Sunday morning.

Satish, brother-in-law of Acharya, filed a complaint in the town police station about the incident. After the maid conveyed information about the theft, the advocate contacted Satish living at Yedaneeru, it is gathered. Although it is suspected that some cash and silver valuables would have been lost in the incident, the real picture will emerge only after the advocate comes back.

The town has been witnessing thefts at homes by thieves who take advantage of absence of families. It is almost certain that the thieves get prompt information about the families leaving home for short or long periods, going by the fact that this is the eighth such theft during the last one year in the town. All these thefts occurred on Saturday nights. This is a puzzle the police have to solve at the earliest if they want to bring down the incidences of theft.

A case of theft was registered by the personnel of the town police station here. Inspector of the station, Mahesh Prasad, visited the spot and guided investigation.
