New Delhi, Oct 26: A man was killed and another suffered critical injuries after a speeding Blueline bus crushed them in outer Delhi late Thursday, taking the toll of those killed in such accidents to 99 this year despite repeated efforts by authorities to tame rogue drivers.

The bus, plying on Route No. 182-A between Sukhveer Nagar and Kashmiri Gate, knocked down two bicycle-riders at Avantika Chowk at around 9.30 pm.

The deceased was identified as Ram Kumar, 32. The injured, whose identity was not known yet, was admitted to the nearby Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical.

After the accident an infuriated mob torched the bus, gutting it down completely. Police had to resort to mild baton charge to disperse the mob.

"The situation in the area is still tense and we are trying to control the mob. Extra police personnel have also been deployed," a senior police official told IANS.

According to police, the driver of the bus fled after the accident, but the killer bus was impounded.

Earlier in the day, a Blueline bus, plying on Route No. 939 Anand Vihar to Mangol Puri, injured a youth after hitting him.

According to police, the accident occurred in outer Delhi at around 10.40 am. The victim, identified as Mobin, was admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where doctors discharged him after treatment.

Police arrested the driver of the bus.

Delhi has over 4,000 privately operated Blueline buses, which form a crucial part of the capital's public transport. They have earned the epithet of "killer buses" as their rogue drivers have run over 99 people and left more than 160 injured this year so far.
