Mangaluru, May 17: Hundreds of people irrespective of religions, caste, organizations and political affiliations, joined protest rally organized by Nethravati Rakshana Samyukta Samiti demanding to scrap the ongoing Yettinahole project here on Monday May 16.

The protest rally started at Jyothi Circle and culminated at DC’s office.

Addressing the protest rally, Vijayakumar Shetty, president of Nethravati Rakshana Samyukta Samiti said, “The aim of the struggle is to stop the Nethravati river diversion. CM Siddaramaiah and Ramanath Rai should understand the problem of people living in Dakshina Kannada. Since 2011, the project name has been changed thrice to fool the people of Dakshina Kannada. Nethravati river is nature’s gift to us. Don't come here to steal it from us.”

“The ministers in charge of the project should have dialogue about the merits and demerits of the project with technical expert SG Mayya. Rai should support the people of Dakshina Kannada if he wants to be great politician like Shrinivas Mallya. If you cannot stop the ongoing project, resign your post in favour of the people and river. Be with us in our struggle and we will make you minister again,” he urged.

He also slammed Ibrahim Kodijal for his statement in favour of the project.

Shri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor Math said, “Water has power to unite people of religions, caste and politics. CM should immediately stop this project. In future we may also ghero Vidhana Saudha.”

Activist MG Hegde said, “For the sake of money, a few contractors are ready to sacrifice the river. The government is even planning to lift water from Gundya and Uppinangady.”

“Many projects which were implemented in Dakshina Kannada have never got completed. Even this project will not be completed and it is sheer waste of people's money,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Sayyed Ibrahim Tangal said, “Irrespective of religion and caste everyone wants water. Water has no discrimination. This is a strong message to the government.”

Fr William Menezes said, “We will save Nethravati river. Nethravati is the life of Dakshina Kannada. The government should not curb people's rights.”

Esha Vittaladasa Swamiji of Kemaru Sandeepani Math said, “We should protest harder to stop this project. Several programmes have been implemented to harm Tulu Nadu. We should awake and our
protest should reach Vidhana Saudha.”

Addressing the gathered, Sathyajith Surthkal said, “Government should immediately stop this ongoing project. It should send its representative to listen to people's plea. If this is done, we will think of
withdrawing the voluntarily bandh called on May 19. Or else we are ready to sacrifices our life to stop this project in favour to save Nethravati.”

"If the government would not stop the project, the peace loving people of district would turn violent , " said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel

"The project was mooted by the leaders of all party and it is the need of the hour to stop the project unitedly ," said MLA J R Lobo

Protester also urged DC to come and receive the memorandum. When DC was late, the protestors started shouting slogan against government and district administration.

After half an hour, DC came and took the memorandum and assured them to send it to CM.

MLA JR Lobo, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Krishna J Palemar, Fr Antony Serrao, Fr J B Crasta, Mohammed Masood, Purushotham Chitrapur, Denis D'Silva, Harikrishna Bantwal and others were present.

Dinkar Shetty welcomed the gathering.

I full support this protest, and my heart goes out to each and every individual who is affected by the YH project. Rightly said, on our elected representatives. Ramanath Rai is an outright useless leader. What can you expect from him. He is just tryin to rake in enough moolah as long as the fun lasts. Haftas from rich timber merchants are filling his coffers. The only feather in his cap is his paunch that has overgrown him. Siddaramiah is at the end of his road, his own ministers are against him , and his leader Indian 'Comedian' is fighting for survival contemplating another full body 'you know what' session in Bangkok. So dont expect any help. Time for Jannanas press conference of the week.

Ramanath Rai will have to take sanyas if he doesn’t support the people of DK and Moily will not win the next election if he doesn’t take the promised water from Nethravati to Chikkaballpur. Both are deemed to doom their career for deceiving the people of Tulu Nadu.

Let there be a complete stoppage of the Y.H. project work for the next 2 years (i.e. till the completion of term of present Govt. & installation of next State Govt.)

Only after a proper study by an unbiased National team of environmentalists & irrigation experts (drawn from different parts of India) on the merits & demerits of the project, shall the next step be taken (i.e. whether to go ahead or abandon).

If not, the future of Tulunadu would be doomed forever. A blunder, if committed in such a matter, can never be reversed.

It is a planned move of rest of Karnataka to Destroy our "TULUVA WAY OF LIFE"
firs They attack our culture by Naming Bootharadhane as Blind belief" and imposing a ban on Kambala
Then, they forcefully snatch our land ( to note this area is Ecologically Sensitive too - we are in CRZ)in the name of MRPL, UPCL also make fake promises of giving us locals a job in the same.
Thirdly, they pollute our environment by setting up the above said factories which have ZERO USEFULNESS to Coastal region as power produced/ income generated is not utilized by Coastal People.
BUT NOW its height of testing our patience, THEY WANT TO SNATCH AWAY OUR DRINKING WATER SOURCE ?

TULUVAS its high time we DEMAND for SEPARATE TULUNADU STATE.

    JAI TULU NADU, JAI NETRAVATI

Dear Protestors, let me know how you ask water from Lakya Dam if you are not ready to provide water to other districts. Why not protest against MRPL,MCF,SEZ because you are getting something from them. Stop time waste protests. Dont forget we are depend on other districts for our mostly daily using necessaries.

If they are not stop "Yettinahole project" then its highly demand for "TULUNADU State" separately. to protect Coastal district and our lives.

Coastal area fed up with MRPL, SEZ, SUZLON, UPCL kind of Industrial project to destroy our Tulunadu Tradition last few decades, Coastal area Naturally for Agricultural land not for Industrial purpose.

All Political Party leaders think their own self benefits whoever ruled us.

Nice to see all regions unity in this sense.
If we make kind unity then definitely TULUNADU will shine again around the world.

The best solution is to demand a tulunadu. this will help us to solve our problems ourselves instead of looking for everything towards Bengaluru. Now the protests should be towards tulunadu which will make the administration sit up and take notice. Else everything from the coastal region will be plundered and taken to North!

Whoever initiated this project need to be debarred from D.K. This is all money making business for the MP's, MLA's and ministers. They take the livelihood of people of D.K. for granted. Why the CM is worried as long as he get's his share of money from this project and his own people get drinking water from 470KM away, while there are enough avenues nearly Kolar, Bangalore to get drinking water to all these effected citiies. Netravathi is the bread and butter of the peole living in Coastal Karnataka and we should unitedly abandon this project for good. Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka.

Good to see a good crowd. When such a project is sanctioned and tender delivered, it's public money which has been wasted here. That too thousand odd crores. But I have a question in mind. Who was the district incharge minister when the plan was made and sanctioned? Who was the MP when the project was finalized? It's Palemar and Kateel. But now they are only participating in the Rally. Does this make sense?? It's only for personal gains I should say.
