Mangaluru, May 17: On Monday May 16 evening, a 'Pravasi Mitra (tourist-friendly)' policeman jumped into the sea in his uniforms and succeeded in saving the life of a girl who was facing the danger of drowning.

The incident occurred at Ullal beach. This beach is known for the dangers it poses particularly to tourists coming from outside.

At around 4.45 pm, a family from Anantapuram which arrived at Ullal Dargah on Monday during summer holidays, visited the nearby beach thereafter. 15 members of the family entered the sea without heeding to the advice of the tourist-friendly policemen on duty. Four among them were being washed away into the sea when three could be saved with some efforts. But Muskan, a seven-year-old girl, had already been pushed 20 metres into the sea.

Raghavendra, one of the tourist-friendly policemen on duty, jumped into the sea in his uniforms, brought the girl to the shore, and provided first aid. He thus succeeded in saving the life of the girl. She happens to be the daughter of Jaffer Sadakoli and Nazma Begum from Anantapuram in Tamil Nadu.

Ullal station crime branch sub-inspector, Rajendra, who visited the spot thereafter, praised Raghavendra for his duty-consciousness. Raghavendra said that the training provided by the department at Bengaluru about saving people trapped in floods came in handy for him in this case.
