Mangaluru: Persuasion by DK administration to stop May 19 bandh fails

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, May 18: The Dakshina Kannada district administration had called leaders of organizations who have decided to hold voluntary bandh on Thursday May 19 and persuaded them not to participate in the bandh. However the protesters refused to budge.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that as the protesters had not participated in the meeting regarding Yettinahole project, the government will be advised to hold another such meeting. Therefore the decision to hold a bandh is not appropriate. “22 lacs people live in the district. Several examinations are in progress. The bandh will cause monetary loss in the district,” he told them.

Netravathi Rakshana Samyuktha Samithi president Vijaya Kumar Shetty speaking on the occasion said that the government and the chief minister do not have clarity on Yettinahole project. “The project is being implemented to please some elected representatives and businessmen. It is not justifiable to say that it will not cause injustice in the district without conducting a scientific study. As the earlier meeting in this regard was held in Bengaluru during festivals, nobody could attend. If such a meeting is held again, we will definitely participate in it. Water from the 36 years long Varahi project has still not reached the beneficiaries. In these circumstances, how long will it take for the completion of this project? Is it possible to make 24 TMC water to reach the proposed destination?” he asked.

Social activist M G Hegde speaking on the occasion said “We are facing drought before the Yettinahole project. What will be our fate after its implementation?”

Netravathi Rakshana Sumyuktha Samithi’s Sathyajith Surathkal, Shashidhar Shetty Kolambe, Dinaker Shetty, Rahim Uchil, Harikrishna Bantwal and Jithendra Kothari participated. District SP Sharanappa, Additional SP Vincent Shatakumar, Puttur divisional officer Rajendra, Dakshina Kannada additional commissioner Kumar and others were present.

This bundh will definitely saves some water for day-after tomorrows agitation. All political leaders play backdoor game to cheat public. BJP MP/MLA's are shaking hand with Congress men behind the curtain and only shout slogans to fool us... shame on you... No proper survey by experts for any project a govt starts. They are bothered about to whom contract to be given and howmuch each will get thru commission.

Mr Vijay Kumar Shetty,We the People of D.K. needs your kind of Person. Wish You could have been the elected Person. We do not need fake MLA and MLC who are Poster Boys. They do what is good for Banners and name on Police Barricades. It is our Money and MLC name is on the Road Barriers. How wise Idea for Publicity for next Election.
Gandhiji got the Freedom for this Country through Satyagraha and won the freedom. Now time to use the freedom given by Bapuji to fight the cause with Bundh. It is indeed true that there is no response by the government.just see how beautifully they tackled the water problem by shutting the mouth of the residents of Mangalore by saying there is no water available at thumbe.its very sad to say our beloved corporator Naveen has not provided a single tanker when i myself informed him that we are even ready to pay.without mentioning the name i can say one of the minister residing at our area is getting tanker when required. There was no response to my question.amongst all these problems should we support them?should we cast our vote?A matter to be really considered

Already there is no water in Ettinahole site except dry mud and concrete. Looking at the current scenario this project will one more option for all the concerned to make money and not water to anyone.

This Brainless Govt and Elected Representatives from all the parties are never interested to real development except vote bank politics like so many Bhagyas and cow politics.

God please save our mother land from these brainless selfish people.

Unfortunately without bundh and such other louder messages, those sitting at B’lore don’t understand our problems. Why are they reluctant to scrap the project when there are other ways to supply water to the drought stricken areas? Nethravati already goes dry in April - May. What will be situation if it is diverted?

DC talking about 22 lakh people of district. 22 lac people will be affected by bandh. DC sir today you will be here & next time you may transferred to any other dist or post. but we people permanently settled here. and if there is no water how we can survive??? so we are supporting the bundh for our survival & we can manage 1 day. you don't worry about the bundh but arrange the water for needy people.

It is very unfortunate that a whole day has to be sacrificed by the people of D.K to realize the State government Head & make them understand about the resentment among the people of D.K for the said project which may not yield any fruit even though huge amount of common public money is spent on this so called YETTINA HOLE project.
