Certified dead by doctors, woman comes alive just before funeral!

Mysuru, May 19: An woman from the city, who had been admitted into hospital for treatment, could not be cured of her ailment, the doctors said, before certifying that she had died. Relatives near and far were informed, and they had gathered at the home of the woman for paying their last respects before funeral could be conducted. At this point of time, some movement was found in her body. On being referred to hospital, the doctors said she was alive and recovering.

The incident occurred on Tuesday May 17 at Agrahara locality in the city. The miracle happened in the case of Padmabai Lodha (59), who basically belongs to Rajasthan. She happens to be the wife of Mahendra Kumar Lodha, working as treasurer of Pinjrapole Society.

Padmabai, wife of Mahendra Kumar Lodha living near Kuderu Math in Agrahara, complained of breathing problems at around 1.30 am on Monday. She was immediately rushed to a private nursing home in the neighbourhood. The doctors who examined her said her condition was serious and that nothing can be said about chances of her recovery for 24 hours. She was admitted into the intensive care unit of the hospital, and put on ventilator. But by Monday evening, doctors said that the lady's body had turned cold completely and that her heartbeat had stopped. They asked relatives of the woman to make preparations for conducting last rites.

The relatives made preparations, and called people to convey this tragic news. They also released an advertisement in a publication, announcing that funeral procession of Padmabai would be taken out at 11 am on Tuesday. The cremation was slated to be held at the foot of Chamundi Hills here.

Hundreds of people rushed to pay their last respects, and many came by night flight from Rajasthan. All arrangements for the funeral procession and cremation had been made and the body was brought from the private hospital to the residence at Agrahara.

As the grieving relatives of the woman got busy with undertaking rituals and paid their last respects in preparation for the funeral procession, the people saw some movement in her body. She was then admitted into Apollo Hospital here. The doctors there said that breathing and heartbeat of the lady were normal but she was unconscious because only 85 percent of her brain was functional. They admitted her into the intensive care in the hospital and opined that she can be discharged in about two days time.

The grieving relatives did away with preparations, conveyed this happy news to their relatives, and the mood inside the family home turned into one of celebration.
