Kerala poll : Sreesanth clean bowled, finished third spot

Thiruvananthapuram, May 19 (Agencies) : Former cricketer S Sreesanth, who recently joined the BJP, was on Thursday finished at the third spot in his Thiruvananthapuram constituency in the Kerala assembly elections.

State health minister VS Shivakumar retained the seat.

Sivakumar polled 46,474 votes, winning over his nearest rival Antony Raju by a margin of 10,905 votes. Raju polled 35,569 votes.

Sreesanth came third with 34,764 votes.

As of latest media reports, the LDF is leading in 89 seats, UDF in 49 and BJP in 1.

Sreesanth was given a life ban by the BCCI in September 2013 after being found guilty of spot-fixing in that year’s IPL tournament. However, a Delhi court exonerated Sreesanth along with two other cricketers--Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila--in July 2015 in the high-profile IPL match-fixing case which had blown the lid off cricket’s biggest scandal in recent times.

The 33-year-old had earlier said his name had been cleared by the court in the match-fixing case and he was not worried about any political attack over the controversy.

The big win for the LDF is an indirect sign that the people of Kerala are, especially the Muslims and Christians are too cautious about the BJP's penetration to Kerala to undermine the social harmony of the State.

In Kerala, Muslims study in Christians and Hindu educational institutions,
Hindus students attend Christian and Muslim educational institutions, and the Christian students attend Muslim and Hindu educational institutions. Thus the solid foundation of a religious harmony is established very early in life. Indeed, even though BJP has less regard for eduction, education will play a key role in harmony and social order. They must learn that from Kerala first of all.

In the Kerala social life and culture, we can witness many things adopted from different religions of Kerala.

In such a surroundings of high level harmony, the made in north Indian religious card game will not work. All the religious people enjoy eating beef, and the 56% Hindus are not going to be forced down to bow in front of a cow and to drink the cow urine, because they are educated. The Somalian preacher at Kerala never showed any interest to help the people of Kerala while the key cash earner rubber commodity price was plunged very highly but the Somalian king was helping the industrialists to import rubber from the Southeast Asian countries
    to make them too rich.

    Mr. Mathew
Your comments are slightly narrow minded and partly talks on religion.

Kerala is the only State in entire India, irrespective of religion, caste, creed, all speak one lanugage ie Malyalam at offices, public ngatherings, at home. The beauty of Keralite is, even in places of worship like temples, churches, mosques they use Malyalam as the language to communicate. They have a lot of common cultural similarities amongst them.

Now being BJP trying to penetrating through religion, it is Malyalees who have shown them their place.

I am glad that LDF has come to power. They are against banning liquor. I too support it, not because it is good but because liquor is enjoyed by all irrespetive of religious background. In that place, everybody is equal and after consuming liquor, all type of non veg. food goes down. nobody has a issue.

We wish all the best to LDF.

Sir, you are not fully agreeing with my comment, but the agreement is greatly appreciated.

Though the liquor ban has some bearing on the election result but the biggest role player of the current election was the fear of the minorities.

56% of the population of Kerala are Hindus, Muslims 24% and the Christians 19%. Why even the BJP politicians like Sri. Advani while speaking at a Christian meeting mentioned the religious harmony of Kerala and the contribution of the Christians in education and healthcare? Recently one Orthodox Church property wall was demolished by the Church to give a wider road for the Hindu Temple, gave the land also free and the Hindus honored the Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church for that act of generosity. That is the religious harmony of Kerala.

Even though, Kerala is caught up in many negative things like liquor consumption (double of national average), divorce, drug use, road accidents, the number cheating business enterprises etc, there are many other things to learn from Kerala.

From many authentic reports, the Muslim and Christians saw that the RSS police march will be strongly taken care only by the LDF so the election results will show.
The Hindus were either communist party or Congress party followers.
Thus the religious card game will not be effective in Kerala.

Once the word " communism " was the deadly vocabulary for the Christians, but now the world communism is a bygone history, but both in Kerala and West Bengal, there are thousands of communists. However, they are not marching by the orders from Russia or China, but they are making their own decision. Thus the approach towards the communist party by the Christians have greatly changed now gave a heavier weight on them as a political protector of their religious freedom in Kerala.

Dear Friend, thank you for your great response.

When I see the pictures in Daijiworld where Hindus-Muslims-Christians-Sikh-Buddhist-Jains and the rest sit together, that gives me greater peace and joy in life. My only desire of life at this bonus years of life to see the people of all religions holding hands and laughing together, so that our posterity will learn that way of life.

But, for the politicians, to continue their political profession will do many unethical and dirty games to divide the society and to watch the bloodshed, thus causing greater division and calamity in the society. It is an open fact and reality that the BJP and her sister parties are causing greater division in the society which was never witnessed earlier in the history of India since independence.

If this trend is going on, Indian economy would be faced with big economic problems.

Till date Mallu's had a very strong unity, In gulf whether he/she is a Hindu, Muslim or a Christian they had very strong bonding. They prefer recruiting their people in the companies they work. They do not allow anyone else to enter and if by chance someone else makes it they will make their life miserable. Now since BJP has opened its account in Kerala, there is a serious threat to their unity, In 1984 BJP opened its account by just two seats in Karnataka and Mangalore was one among them. Mangalore has seen lot of changes in terms of religious harmony.

In every democratic country, the political candidate for every constituency must establish certain number of years in their residency status. But in India, it is totally contrary. One well known movie star from Maharashtra as an M.P. candidate can contest in Gujarat or Kerala as the party nominates. That is totally undemocratic simply using a popular name for political party gains.

Also, is it democratic to contest from two different places for one candidate? Mr. Modi was contested from Gujarat and Varanasi to assure his winning chance.

The current electoral format of India is totally a big political business and laughing at the real democratic principles seen everywhere in the world.
