Mangaluru, May 20: Mangaluru city was experiencing the worst ever drinking water problem this year till now. It seems that because of favourable conditions, the water woes will become things of the past. The rain experienced in coastal region since the last couple of days has begun to have an effect on the inflow into Thumbay vented dam which supplies water to the city. Although water was continuously pumped from the dam since Wednesday morning, water level showed only a marginal decrease from four feet to 3.7 feet during this period.

At the same time, the water released from Nekkilady dam two days back had not reached Thumbay dam till Thursday night. City corporation commissioner, H N Gopalakrishna, said he hopes that this water would flow into the dam on Thursday night.

In the meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted normal to heavy rainfall in coastal districts on Friday. The district, which was enveloped in clouds on Thursday morning, experienced bright sunshine later. However, in the evening, the weather turned cloudy again. With the expectations of continued rainfall, the people see a ray of hope of their water woes getting addressed.
