Paramehswara warns against embarrassing statements of Cong leaders

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Begaluru, May 20: Taking umbrage at the utterances of social welfare minister, H Anjaneya, comparing private educational institutions to brothels, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Parameshwar, has instructed him not to issue statements like these which will harm the image of the party.

In a letter shot off to Anjaneya on Thursday, Parameshwar said that the statement the latter had made recently has hurt sentiments of lot of people. "Several religious leaders and spiritual heads of Maths who have been running educational institutions, contacted me over phone and registered their objections against your statements. Private educational institutions have contributed a lot to the education sector. Being a minister, the statements being made by you publicly should be polite, and they should not hurt any particular sector, class, or community," he advised.

He asked the minister to take legal action against institutions which collect unreasonable donations instead of making public statements, which have the potential of harming the party's standing. He pointed out that legislative constituency elections for teachers and graduate constituencies have been announced, and therefore, behavior of party leaders have the possibility of casting an influence on the outcome of the elections. Taking serious view, he has instructed the minster not to issue controversial statements henceforth.

Speaking to reporters earlier at the party office, Parameshwar expressed similar sentiments.

Parameshwar also distanced himself from the warning issued by MLC, V S Ugrappa, of taking streets to protest against non-cooperative attitude of the governor. He clarified that Ugrappa's statements are his own and not of his party.

"The statement made by Ugrappa was not of the party. He had not even discussed this issue with me. I do not know under what circumstances he made these statements. If the governor seeks clarifications for any of the files, the government would be providing explanations. The governor too has legal advisors, and whenever he seeks any clarification, government will be providing it. Ugrappa's utterances therefore, do not represent the party's view," he clarrified.
