Mangaluru, May 20: “Providing every possible support to students for education is our priority in minority welfare department,” said minorities welfare minister Qamarul Islam.
Addressing a press meet here at circuit house on Friday May 20, the minister explained the achievements of his ministry in the past three years and said “About Rs 2525 crore budget has been allocated to the minority department in the past three years and this year we have achieved 99 percent expenditure.”
“Our government has already fulfilled about 120 promises out of 165 made in the election manifesto. In my department, we had promised about 10 promises out of which 8 have been fulfilled and two are under progress.”
“We have modified the educational schemes during UPA government under state schemes. The thrust of the government and my ministry is to provide maximum support to education for the same. We have introduced about 12 schemes such as pre matric and post matric scholarships. Under this scholarship, government of India had sanction Rs 400 crore and we from the state pooled in additional Rs 600 crore. Thus we were successful in achieving 100 percent coverage. We have made the whole process online and transparent and payment is made through RTGS.”
“Students who pursue medical and engineering courses are given interest free loan and Rs 25000 reimbursement. Students who pursue education abroad are given up to Rs 20 lac scholarships. We also have scholarships for students writing competitive exams such as KAS, IAS and other administrative exams. Students will be paid their training centre fee by the government. Students pursuing their coaching in Bengaluru and Hyderabad will be paid a sum of Rs 10,000 and Rs 13,000 in Delhi as stipend for ten months of their training period.”
“There were about 124 post and pre matric hostels in the state and another 137 hostels are being built after I took charge. The main objective is to provide best education to youngsters. Education will mould these youngsters for the betterment of nation and society at large.”
“There were about 2540 posts vacant in the department and as of now 1000 posts have been filled. The notification for another 1000 posts has been issued. About Rs 50 crore budgets was allocated for Bidai scheme and scheme is extended for SC/ST's too.”
On being asked about the Waqf property recommendation submitted by Anwar Mannipadi, the minister said, “According to 2013 amendment all the Waqf properties are being surveyed in Dakshina Kannada. The survey is complete and about 333 acre 29.5 cents land is surveyed. Within 6 months the survey will be complete. There are about 34000 waqf properties in the state,” he added.
