Bengaluru: 6-year-old girl mauled by stray dogs

Benagluru, May 21 (DHNS): A pack of about 12 dogs mauled a 6-year-old girl who was playing near her house at Bilikallu on Ullalu Main Road near Kengeri on Thursday afternoon.

The strays chomped off a part of her right ear and wounded her badly in the thighs. With multiple injuries, the girl has been admitted to the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) near K R Road where her condition is said to be critical.

Her father Ramegowda, a driver by profession, said the dogs preyed on two lambs and a calf and ate them in no time before attacking the girl. Scared by the sight, Ramya ran towards her home when the dogs chased her and bit her all over her body.

Ramegowda said, “Four lambs and a calf were tethered nearby. The dogs attacked them and ate two lambs and the calf before attacking my daughter. Somehow, we saved the two lambs and my daughter.”

Ramya, a UKG student, has been put on intravenous fluid. The doctors have given her anti-rabies vaccines and anti-rabies serum.

Ramegowda said he had taken her to two other hospitals and the doctors there expressed their inability to treat her in absence of anti-rabies vaccines.Later, he took her to KIMS, he added.

His relatives said the stray dog menace had grown monstrously in the area. They said at least 70 stray dogs in the locality had made their lives miserable. They blamed the BBMP for doing nothing to check the problem haunting the locality for quite a long time.

This is not the first unfortunate incident in B’lore. Why still precautions are not being taken by the municipal authorities and animal activists? We don’t hear of such incidents from other cities. In busy bustling cities people don’t have time to rear and feed dogs. Secondly it’s not possible to rear these animals in apartments. Dogs in villages don’t prey upon goats, sheep or calves since they are fed by the villagers despite their pitiable condition. Animal lovers must ensure that dogs are either fed properly or rehabilitated in some remote areas.

hey... it's a message to you Mr.Ramegowda father of Ramya. We all ( leaving the politicians and authorities who are acting blind and deaf ) , rest we all understand what pain you are passing through. So, happened is happened. Just bring some poison from market ... and feed it to all the stray dogs. It's easy...mix mutton with this poison and feed them. This will save other babies from such attacks. Don't hear to any organizations like people for animals or who fight for such animals which are dangerous to the humanity. If they really worry , let them take away all these stray gods to their homes. You just get this done to get justice to your own daughter. No sin or mistake of her, she is bearing all these pain. So, please... now itself go to market, poison all the stray dogs. These need to be eliminated for the goodwill of the society.

First these dog sh.... lowers should be finished and then the stray dogs.

Animal right lovers should be put in a cage with these stray dogs for a month and one should watch how much they really love them.

Human beings dont have right or left but these dirty dogs have right left and center.

    This is our India.

In Mangaluru and surrounding areas, domestic dogs have become a rarity. With wild animals like leopards hunting at them, villagers are desperately looking for a new puppy. While good home-bred breed costs lacs of Rupees, people don't leave even stray puppies if found anywhere.

Bangaluru can certainly be different with people living in tiny apartments having no place for a dog. As such, animal activists should understand and either rehabilitate the puppies to places that need them or sterilize the adult canines.

Who has to be blamed!?. Its the people who instead of destroying the litter, stealthily leave puppies at some other far away place once they grow up! and then blame all other agencies for not tackling the dog menace. Over that many people instead of giving the leftovers to garbage collection vans, throw it on the roadside or empty places for dogs to feed and thrive. We have to strictly make licensing mandatory for every dog that is owned by every household and then the problem of strays will vanish

Dogs are become menace to one and all. Should do something in this regard. Difficult for aged people and children to move alone in the streets. Don't know from where it attacks. Main mistake is of ourrself as are throwing garbage where ever we want. It's become feeding grounds for these dogs. If thrown correctly in waste drums at least stray dogs stay there itself. What happened is not good. Dog lovers even not bother to keep city clean. After all dog is belonged to wolves clan.
