Two months for Baliga murder - Naresh Shenoy hiding in UP village ?

Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 20: Although the murder of Vinayak Baliga, (51) an RTI activist who was hacked to death in the early morning of March 21 at PVS Kala Kunj Road, Kodialbail, has completed two months, the city police have arrested four suspects out of which two were said to be supari killer hired for murder, the key suspect Naresh Shenoy is still at large.

According to the highly placed sources in the police department, it is reportedly said that Naresh Shenoy the prime suspect in Vinayaka Baliga's murder is said to be hiding in a village in Uttar Pradesh under the protection of right wing leaders. It is also learnt that Naresh Shenoy is frequently shifting his base from one village to other to escape from the clutches of the law.

According to some reliable sources, all four arrested accused have confessed Naresh Shenoy's name as the prime accused. Heavy political pressure has been reportedly placed on the state home minister as well as city police commissioner from the central government. But, sources say that, city police commissioner had refused to budge for any pressure from the state or central as he is committed to provide justice to the victim Baliga.

Naresh Shenoy had earlier applied for the anticipatory bail on Friday April 29 in the II additional and sessions judge court in the city but his bail plea was rejected by the court. Presently he is also making an effort to obtain anticipatory bail from the High Court of Karnataka. Sources close him say that, he is using every possible efforts to get the ball through High Court. If not successful, he will wait and hide until he can get it from the Supreme Court.

Naresh Shenoy

Naresh Shenoy who was considered as one of potential BJP candidates from Mangaluru constituency for next assembly election has suffered major setback after his disappearance. He was the founder of NaMo brigade, through which he rose to fame not only in the region, but the state. He had played significant role in Nalin Kumar's election during last Lok Sabha. Later NaMo brigade was renamed as Yuva Brigade.

If at all he does not have any role in the murder, he would have co-operated to the investigation. Even after Baliga's murder, Shenoy was very much in city, but soon after the first arrest, he escaped from city. It is said that, first accused had disclosed the Naresh Shenoy's name.

It is interesting to learn that, one of the accused arrested was personal driver of highly influential senior BJP leader from city.

It will be interesting to see whether Naresh Shenoy's influence through central government save him or real justice will be done to Baliga family. A senior lawyer speaking to daijiworld said that, state government as well as Congress party leaders in city have not been taking any interest in pressurising the investigation as the party does not want to hurt a particular community. BJP is not bothered in any way to protest as it will dent its own image in the region.

If Naresh Shenoy manages to remain at large for a longer period, and non-political and social activists continue to put pressure on the issue, it could become an election issue for sure in the future.

I am sorry for the old parents and sister of Baliga to say that this is closed case.

There will be no arrest,no prosecution and no sentence in this high profile case.

Namo founder Naresh Shenoy is safe in the custody of local political and blessing of powerful Swamiji which even law enforcement agency can't penetrate.

Even though he is arrested he will be given clean chit.

There is nexus between Congress soft Hindutva to shield culprit and BJP hardcore Hindutva figure.

If there is honest in Police investigation dots will linke from kateel to Kaldaka to Nagpur.

Recently the Supreme court was in news for being critical of govts and said that they have not done enough for the drought situation. Is it the job of Court to tell government ( legislature)?

Similarly why should the state government interfere with the police department for arresting or not arresting? Don't the police force have a protocol to follow?

We the people putting pressure on government( Siddu) to put pressure on police - I think this philosophy is fundamentally wrong. Police force should do their job.

When our philosophy of "putting pressure" itself is faulty, what can we expect? Our thinking needs to change and following this there will be a need felt to change the law to make police force autonomous and disengaged from the state government. May be my inputs may sound faulty but just see how our system creates this mess in the first place.

Our system s corrupt or makes people corrupt. There is no accountability built in. Being in power means money to be made.

In such cases, Congress is always on the receiving end. If they show courage and arrest Naresh, BJP, BD, bhakts and other RSS affiliates will hit the streets, begin online tirade, terming Congress as 'anti-Hindu' and pro-minority. This is the similar case with moral policing, cattle policing and other related cases. Congress keeps mum because it is afraid that it will lose Hindu votes because BJP and RSS have successfully managed to paint Congress as anti-Hindu through their misleading propaganda, photoshop tirade by the bhakts etc. Ultimately all the political parties are banking on votes and they won't do anything that would hurt their vote bank.

Take the example of BJP. It has not opened its mouth on Baliga's murder case because from day one, it knew who was behind it. Had a Muslim or Christian’s name cropped up in this case, BJP, BD, RSS, ABVP would have set entire district on fire by this time, ransacking the public property. BJP staged protest in the Moodbidri Prashant murder case and even demanded compensation of Rs 25 lac to his family even after knowing well that he was as rowdy sheeter and had cases filed against him. Is it because he was murdered by Muslims? But in Vinayaka Baliga case, forget about compensation, BJP is yet to open its mouth. Yeddy, Shobha etc who make a beeline to visit victims and their families in cases where Muslim, Christians are accused, have not even spoken with the members of Vinayak's family over the phone. People should understand the politics that is being played by these parties specially in our district. But despite knowing this, we still support same goons again and again because they are from our community, our religion etc. In this case too, the last person to be arrested used to be driver of one of the present BJP MPs with whom Naresh has very good rapport from many years. More than Congress' inaction, BJP's silence speaks more as who is actually behind this gruesome murder of Vinayak Baliga

Very good analysis. I think that this murder has all the hall marks of "Intolerance" . Yes it is ironical that Baliga belonged to the same community. But the very same mindset that shows intolerance and resorts to violence is at work here. BinLaden was part of CIA but later became independent similarly the accused seem to flexing their muscle to settle scores. The problem with the Intolerance ideology is that slowly it will cause fight within communities , between neighbors.

My only grouse with the right wing ideology is their intolerance to dissent. BJP by not raising the voice against violence has stooped to a new low. However they are looking down(not up!) at Congress( they are not any better). Congress party is continuously showing attrition due to its rotten organizational behavior- the " first family" has lost its relevance to the voters. The sooner they remove these royals the better is for the CONGRESS. OR ELSE it will be on the endangered( about to be extinct) list.

In our country democracy is not fully functional yet as we have a creaky judiciary essential to ensure robust justice system. Our Police force structure is more like a bully and authoritarian rather than an autonomous LAW enforcement . We the people are divided on community lines caste lines and religious lines.
