Don’t panic, Congress will bounce back -S M Krishna

From Our Special Correspondent

Daijiworld Media Network

Bengaluru, May 22: A day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi asked partymen to remain united and true to its ideals as well as its time-tested principles to regain its lost glory, senior Congress leader S M Krishna on Sunday advised all Congress leaders and workers not to panic after the defeat in the just concluded five State Assembly polls and expressed confidence that Congress will bounce back soon.

The former Karnataka Chief Minister and former Union External Affairs Minister, has in a press statement said the party has emerged victorious in Puducherry and become the main opposition in West Bengal, Assam and Kerala.

The BJP won just 67 Assembly seats against the Congress 137 in five states, he said and felt the partymen need not lose heart over loss of power in Kerala and Assam.

At the same time, Krishna wondered as to what was the BJP gloating about as it had been rejected in four out of the five states, while Congress had retained respectable position and vote share in all the States that went to the polls.

“How it is possible for the BJP to achieve Congress-mukt Bharat?” he asked.

The former Chief Minister said the Congress was in similar a position to that of 1978 when the party was reduced to power in just Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The party emerged victorious in subsequent parliamentary and assembly elections and ruled the country for several years, he said.

Pointing out that Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi were not solely responsible for the party’s defeats in five States, Krishna said. The Congress party went to the polls with collectively responsibility and how can two of the top leaders to be held responsible when the party loses?, he asked.

Instead of tackling poverty, unemployment, inflation, agrarian crisis and infrastructure problems, the ruling BJP at the Centre was only talking about “Congress-mukt Bharat”, he said and wondered how it would help the country or its people.

In the 2014 general elections, the Congress party had secured 13 crore votes while the BJP bagged 17 crore votes, he said.

The 137-year old party has pan-India presence, the former external affairs minister said and called upon the party workers to build the party from the grass-root level.

Since the world is changing so fast, INC needs to look outwards/forwards and move fast, without looking behind.

Strategic planning by "young turks", is the need of the moment.
There is no place at all in the present scenario for "super senior citizens" in politics and hardly any scope for even just-turned senior citizens. It's time for the latter categories to take their well-deserved rest and to some extent, mentor the present and future young-generation leadership.

Shrewd, young & dynamic, quick-thinking/quick-acting political functionaries are the crying need of the moment, to lead INC out of it's mess/decadence, to a position of solidity/respectability.

Hope the realisation dawns soon, if not, INC, the "Grand Old" (137 year old) political party may find itself consigned to the history books of politics.

Mr. Krishna it seems that you are also in Coma. If Congress would have contested on its own without getting support from other Parties it would have been totally wiped out. It is rightly said by the top brass of congress it should require a major surgery. Stop boasting Mr. Krishna.

I was thinking of voting for Hilary but now,I am thinking of voting for your favourite Trump ...honestly...

Normally white, rich and less educated, Supporters of free Gun lobby, vote for republicans....less taxes and less Government controls...

Colored people, educated, immigrants, poor, those who don't like US to behave like 'World's Policeman' vote for democrats...

Both have their good and bad qualities...but neither of them are corrupt!!!...

If Bhandumaam contests election from Mangalore South, as AAP candidate...even if I cannot vote for him, I will canvass for him, like I did for Oscar in 1980...

This months assembly elections in 5 states revealed, 'how Charismatic is FEKU'!

BJP's best friend Shiv Sena itself questioned "Now, it is being touted that the Congress was thrown out in Assam and Kerala but why is not being said that the BJP was defeated in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry?"

Congress won 137 seats in 5 states where as BJP won only 64 seats... still celebrating!
Entire high command of BJP campaigned in Kerala & West Bengal, but voters response was 'PoMoneFEKU'!

If BJPs intention was 'just opening account in Kerala', why PM FEKU himself should have conducted rallies there?

With due respect to the comments which you have correctly said....none of the Bhakts would agree because their achievement is to do publicity at our tax payers cost and they (BJP) could abolish the "Planning Commission" and now waiting for "All Loan's Maaf"....thru Subramaniyam Swamy...they think...they can pressurize RBI Governor Mr. Rahuram Rajan not to make public the willful defaulter's names who have borrowed money from Nationalised Banks who have helped Modi to come into power !!!
Mallya is already out...(Courtesy...Home Min.& Finance Min.) What more you can expect from "FEKU" team which is directionless!!!!

    Mr. SM Krishna,

How will congress bounce back when you are still bouncing on the congress pitch.

Mr. Krishna, when my grand father was 70 years old, he was leading a retired life, but you still prefer to stay without allowing the young politicians to face the world.

If the 30 years old person can be the CEO of the Multi National Company and work on revenue generation and improvements, I think they are very capable to lead. They may not require a walking stick to go around.

Think over it. Please dont bounce on the congress pitch.

It's two years now for BJP /Modi rule now.Worst sufferers are common middle/poor class people.Development manthra in favor of poor people spelt by Modiji during election speeches has not come true yet.But rich/ corporates got abundantly.
Modi should think of increasing IT slab, reducing service tax,SB cess, petrol diesel price, toor dal Moog and so many if at all want to come back next.

Modi needs to take a survey of mindset of common/salaried class people....
History may repeat so do not under estimate Pappu and his mother.Indian voters especially middle class are intelligent enough to prove their might.

    WHAT HE IS SAYING IS:
Buisness is down now and there is shortage of power- We have all looted the nation and these foolish countrymen will come back to us- Just be an obstructionist and use usp the money we have made at the grassroots to buy votes- Keep the Gandhi( NOT BAPU) name alive and we will all have Jobs.

We still have enough leftovers and we will bounce back- Talk about principals and be a hypocrite in personal life is the MOTTO of congress- DO you know of any poor Congress Minister?? Can you tell know atleast 5 wealthy congress ministers who had nothing when they ran for elections ? Do you see budding congress leaders going in the same path? if the answer is yes - you get my point about this out of touch , selfish party with one major state retaining them and putting up with their nonsense
